They’ll be moving to a new (undisclosed) location at some future (undisclosed) time. Never did make it out to try it personally but it seemed like the reviews weren’t stellar. Which is a shame because it sounded like a slam dunk as a concept! But clearly things didn’t go as well as they needed to.

I’m still on board with the Tatsuya empire in general so I wish them well with the next version of this restaurant.

The brisket at Kemuri Tatsuya is stellar

  2. LavishnessAny9734

Yeah Kemuri Tatsuya is incredible! I didn’t really see a need to check out this new location?

  3. mesopotato

Was pretty disappointed when I went. The place before seemed better but maybe that spot is just cursed.

If it’s at all hot outside that location is a nightmare. The timing makes sense.

  5. InternetJerk4U

Oh wow! I just ate there for the first time this weekend. The nachos were amazing.

We went right when it opened and it was good, but haven’t even thought about going since. Just not a concept with a ton of legs and while the building is pretty cool, it’s located in a part of Mueller that’s just not near the foot traffic.

I like the place a lot, but the location leaves something to be desired. I was wondering how long they would last there, and I am *really* rooting for them to come back stronger. Love all things Tatsu-Ya!

EDIT: How is this something to be downvoted? People really getting mad at showing support?

It’s a great location but they just did a lot wrong:

    * super oily, hot dishes, just not a great fit for the Texas weather
    * very limited menu
    * music too loud (in my opinion)
    * limited indoor seating (if you serve cold weather food, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me to have more outdoor than indoor space)
    * …

I could go on and on. The food wasn’t particularly good the two times I went either.

I wanted to like this place, but the food and menu was forgettable. I love this spot and really miss contigo being there. Hope something moves in there soon!

I’m not surprised by this nor disappointed. I really wanted to like tatsu-ya’s concept here, but it just wasn’t good. Eating ramen outside anytime other than winter is miserable. Kemuri style restaurant would have been better.

    I still miss Contigo.

This ranked up there is possibly the worst bowls of ramen i’ve had in Austin. They were surviving off of the tatsuya hype but i feel like the fusion was all done wrong or too heavy with no balance. I think the Austin food scene is growing to be where you need to be actually pretty good to survive as a new restaurant. Return customers are what they needed, not a bunch of people who will only visit once and never go back.

Sad to hear as I’m friends with one of owners but always thought it was a bit of a stretch for them

  13. Can we simply bring those two standard BBQ bowls back to the Kemuri Tatsu-Ya menu like in the good ole’ days? Those were the perfect closer for a meal there – I was gutted when they were dropped in favor of this much broader concept.

This place was hyped up so much for me. My brother said it was his favorite restaurant in Austin. I found it very disappointing and worse than just regular Ramen Tatsuya. Ive also found Ramen Tatsuya underwhelming the last several times I’ve been, to be fair. Location and vibe was cool, though. Hopefully someone new can come in and take advantage.

Eh. Not a huge loss. The dumplings things were amazing, but the ramen was… meh. Just didn’t go well together imo.

Ramen in Austin just isn’t very good. Tatsu-Ya is good for those nights I’m exhausted and just need to be full quickly, but it’s not excellent ramen and I don’t go expecting it to be. The other large(r) cities I’ve lived in had far better ramen restaurant options, likely due to a richer Japanese immigrant culture within the food scene and larger community.

  17. It was not good. Was excited to go for my birthday and it was a huge letdown.

  18. godsmyjudge

Literally nobody ever asked for bbq soup. It was a dumb idea.

  19. Immediate_Cellist_47

Surprised by the amount of hate in the comments. I only went once but I loved this spot. Serving meaty ramen with their version of a frito pie was super unique and delicious imo

Bummer. Please just make something work in that location so it stays a restaurant and doesn’t get paved over and turned into condos.

  21. nineball22

I thought the food and cocktails were amazing. But there was too much outdoor seating and the location was bad.

  22. Entire_Ad_3039

Ramen is over hyped in Austin but this place was next level over hyped

  23. Slow_Boss_358

Yeah my brother and I went a few months back after recommendation from one of those instagram food bloggers said it was good, don’t get me wrong it was alright but not good enough like everyone’s saying to go back a second time, still think Ramen512 still the best ramen I’ve had in Austin

  24. Easy-Juice-8023

As someone who put blood, sweat, and tears into opening this place and worked for years after, I’m sad to hear this. I will agree with some people that the menu was not as exciting as before Covid. I know they went thru more than a few management changes and chefs came and went so I think it’s hard to sustain quality when things change so frequently. I will fondly remember those first exciting years when we were top 8 in the nation and the city was excited to join us. Haters gonna hate tho… Kanpai Kemuri!

  25. notrudeorginger

Id say the concept was not stellar unfortunately smoked meat in broth just taste like smoke. We got a few different ramen options none of them stood out either no flavor or just smoke flavor. The appetizers were good and tasty!

  26. Who wants to eat ramen outside when it’s 98F with 62% humidity?

  27. younghplus

What if they turn it into another, larger Tiki Tatsuya with outdoor seating?

  28. boss_hogg_on_candy

Ya, this was the wrong concept to take over for Contigo for so many reasons

  29. gvilchis23

Tatsu-ya concepts are like s comfort ramen, not great not bad, that bbq place tho was bad, so not surprise at all.

I just could not get on board with every cocktail being $16. Two of us went for two drinks (cocktail and Sapporo) and left with a $65 tab. Could not come back for more.
