Carrot leaves are great in a salad.
We use carrot tops as a replacement for anything calling for parsley. Using it for chimichurri is my favorite.
This Spring we planted our carrots in an old mineral tub. We also had a lid of sorts to use on it as a cover for better germination ……………… FANTASTIC best carrot harvest ever. Cannot overemphasize the need for moisture as well as a cover per germination!
Do you have any issues with carrot rust fly in your area? That seems to be my biggest challenge.
…Question … Gary, have you ever used the corn starch solution for planting carrot seeds ? … it works great for keeping the seeds from drying out !
With our ponds, we have frogs and toads. I prefer the toads. The frogs hide inside leafs that unfurl like my Ohio Bananas. I'm waiting on my carrots, a few have sprouted.
I planted carrots (3 weeks ago) in buckets this year. Season/summer started late this year again. Warm days but COLD nights. Really messed up my scheduled for both starters and planting in the garden. Only crop I managed to get into the ground was my potatoes. Last year was the same. Had MANY tomato plants and a HUGE harvest of only green tomatoes… This year, I opted to buy tomato plants as I really want to have my own tomatoes! Had to restart my zucchini seedlings. Direct sowed a few zucchinis about 2 weeks ago, they haven't come up yet, even though I had them between damp paper towels until they sprouted. The rest of the sprouted seeds, I put into starting pots and they're about ready to be planted in the garden and in a few containers. Go figure! The carrots I planted in the buckets, have come up a few inches already and have their real foliage. Know I need to water them more regularly than in the garden beds but, that's OK. Have to water nearly every day now regardless since all of a sudden, we now have above 80F/30C everyday along with warmer nights.
Carrot tops can be used in vegetable soups.

carrot top pesto is good for pasta and to marinate meats!

i use the leaves in stock… just like celery leaves. i put all of them not cut.. in a freezer bag.. fall will come soon enough to make soup
Buy Nante variety seeds as they tend to have blunt noses and are less prone to forking and splitting. Regards from Australia 🦘
