Review: I’m not sure if this is the first vintage tin that I have tried but since this is a 2016 vintage, I figured it was time to give it a try. Seriously, what is up with some of these Portuguese tins being so tough to open? Be sure to eat your Wheaties and spinach before opening these. Finally got the lid off to release a mild, funky sardine smell and three big fish with beautiful looking blue & silver skin. All three chokers came out of the tin without a fight but the was very fragile so be sure to give them a good look while they are still in the tin. All three had firm, moist flesh and spines were very soft, barely noticeable. Not a scale in sight. These had a very mild taste, well seasoned with salt. Quite delicious. The olive oil was just ok, but overall, I really enjoyed this tin. Top notch. Honestly, I was not expecting much as I was less than impressed with the regular Zingerman’s sardines that I reviewed last year ([https://www.reddit.com/r/CannedSardines/comments/yhqawc/review_77_zingermans_portuguese_sardines_da/](https://www.reddit.com/r/CannedSardines/comments/yhqawc/review_77_zingermans_portuguese_sardines_da/)). Perhaps it is the aging or perhaps it is the better fish selection from the start, but these were not the same deens I had last summer.

I bought two of this vintage so I have one more for later. My initial thought was to try them at five years and then again at eight. I also purchased two of their 2017 vintage when I got these. It looks like their vintage (18, 19, & 20) are now $10 but $7 if you buy 10 or more, and I’m giving them some serious thought based solely on this one.

Nice. The cover alone if worth the purchase. Do you save them at all?
