Green Mountain Grills smokers are horrible. Wi-Fi never works. Temp set at 225, fluctuating between 195 to 304 degrees. Just awful.

I have an older model one. About 10 years old. It’s done pretty well all things considered.

I have the small portable one and it keeps temp really well. But I agree the WiFi and app are trash and unusable.

My wifi is rock solid. Dedicated 2.4 wifi.

I fixed my one session of wild temp fluctuations by cleaning the temp probe in the chamber. I now try to do it after every cook

Make sure you’re also on the current firmware

These companies that only support 2.4 (and basically hide that in the manual) and expect 5G peeps to downgrade their router config should be dealt with in the most serious way allowed. Not talking just smokers but I have a Geenie camera that’s the same way.. Once you get it and find out then all they want to do is fight the return because, you know, it says so in the manual.. Which I didn’t see till I GOT THE FN THING… Anyway.. Smoke on…

I’m too Texas to buy anything that doesn’t run on wood and needs internet to work.

I have an older Davy Crockett from GMG that works just fine. It holds temp to within 5 degrees of setting.

I love my prime, I will say though I use a thermoworks smoke as my trusted temp, not their probes. My wifi and app always work, so not , but I do have a higher end ubiquiti wifi setup so that maybe why.

They had recently put out a memo apologizing for the lack of quality and replacement parts which could explain the increased amount of lemons recently. I have had one for three years, with temps cross checked by my Fireboard 2, and it will maintain temps within 5-10 degrees all day.

Something to keep in mind, all of GMG’s biggest competitors (Traeger, Pitboss, Campchef etc) also have the same issues and complaints.

If it’s so terrible get a replacement unit, or better yet a refund.

They are apparently coming out with a whole new line of grills with a new manufacturing partner. I had the previous model to this and it was solid until the controller died, and then the auger seized. Support was great with getting a new controller even out of warranty, but I got too frustrated when the auger died. I switched to a Masterbuilt Gravity and the flavor is so much better than pellets I stopped using them. The MB is a Chinese made cheap grill too and won’t last more than a few years, but it’s simple to repair and cheap enough to replace with end of season sales when it destroys itself. Also, a lot of pellet grills with PID controllers have pretty big swings, the PID averages the temps over a set period of time. Watching the temp swings on external probe will probably drive you crazy. It’ll rarely be a steady temp, it is fire and wood being controller with a fan. Lots of variables. If you just set your temp and cook and not overthink it, it’ll probably produce good food just fine.

Wi-Fi needs to be 2.4 ghz. 5 ghz is great for penetrating walls in your home, but it’s range outside is similar to how long you can throw your fridge. So unless you cook inside your home? Make your Wi-Fi operate on 2.4 ghz as well.

Fluctuations like this is due to incorrect weather settings . Go to settings and change to warmer climate. It will feed less pellets per cycle and it won’t overshoot. Always set weather/season settings to the correct weather/season. If in doubt? Always go for warm climate – better to undershoot than overshoot (it will just compensate by feeding pellets more often).

My GMG is about 4 years old. Have found it to be incredibly consistent and reliable.

Did you read your manual? Call support? It’s an outdoor oven but you actually have to try a little.

I have 2 the Davy Crockett (for camping)and Daniel Boone. 4;years old No issues l, Temps are in range always unless you run out of pellets during the smoke. That’s my fault though no big deal when paying attention to the alarm right.
