I’m making a curry today for the first time in my slow cooker with a new recipe.
I didnt end up having Garam masala, and a good replacement for that involves mixing Cumin and Allspice. I got that sorted.
What I’m confused about though, is that the recipe already called for Cumin by itself , so since I’m adding Cumin to a mix for a replacement of another spice, should I adjust the ammount I add of it by itself?
It sounds like alot of Cumin with both the substitute and its initial ammount but im not an expert at cooking so I don’t know. Thought I’d check because I don’t wanna risk adding too much and over powering the flavor.
The recipe is here if anyone wants to read.
Conclusion.
I need to add 1 tablespoon of Cumin already, shall I adjust this to less since I’m also adding Cumin to replace the Garam masala?
Thanks in advance

I think Garam Masala usually contains cumin as part of the mix. So, if the recipe is calling for GM and Cumin, I would add it twice. You would essentially be adding it twice in the original. Although, GM has more than just cumin and allspice, so I would maybe add slightly less than the 1T (like, start with 2teaspoons), since it’s flavor in the GM would be more diluted by other flavors.
