Carve American Grill puts their meat in your face as soon as you walk through the door. It’s in a case. You’re welcomed to browse their cuts before ordering.

The sister-restaurant of Perry’s Steakhouse opened its second location just east of Mopac/45th. It’s the first of three restaurants opening this summer in The Grove. The same restaurant group is opening an upscale Mexican place called Verdad next door and Ling Wu’s second location is under construction. I noticed Carve cause it’s next door to Love Cycling Studio, love that place. ❤️

I’m not familiar with the original Carve location on Southwest Parkway. The bartender said some of the staff relocated to open the new shop so you might recognize some faces if you’ve been to the other.

Menu is big, entrees are $25-$50, sides $13. Priciest steak I saw is $69, the Cowboy Ribeye. You can also order cuts by the ounce, tops out at filet mignon for $5.75/oz. They do prime rib on Thursdays for $3.50/oz.

I’m not a big meat eater, had the tortilla soup ($13) which js on the “Off-menu Menu,” a separate hand out page with a few other bites. Soup was green chili chicken flavor, very tomato forward, I like mine spicier.

Also tried the sausage & pepper nachos and side of kimchi fried rice. Window dressed bar probably gets good natural light but is pretty dark after sunset.

They have a wall of wine containers that look like kegs and feed an impressive row of taps at the bar.

I got there on the last day of a deal that saved me about $20, otherwise my tab would be $50+ for nachos, soup, a side of rice and non-alcoholic cocktail.

I’m sure the place is competitive with other steak joints, and I appreciated the service, at this point I’m more interested in a weekend brunch or a lunch special.

And now I realize it’s spelled Carve American Grille (not Grill).

A word to the wise, the desserts are very expensive, and a lot of them that say they have meringue on top actually have a mountain of marshmallow fluff on top and it’s pretty gross and it’s $15. The cocktails are at least $15 and up and they are all unmemorable. Tons of great appetizers there. French dip is great. Adding proteins to the salad is a good move. Be careful though. It’s really expensive for what you’re getting in some cases.
