Who doesn’t love the familiar smell of bacon and grilled onions after a show at the Palladium. Doesn’t get more LA than that.

I’ve had plenty of bacon wrapped hot dogs from random street vendors outside bars at 2am, and I don’t remember mayo being a part of it. I’m sure they had it available if you asked for it, I just don’t remember it being a default thing.

  2. CountySurfer

Have been living in Hollywood and SFV since 2001 and never had mayo on a dirty dog.

  3. yitdeedee

I know that Mayo is an option, but I’ve never actually gotten mayo on mine.

You don’t think someone on r/golf isn’t going to have a way too typical never cross La Cienega sheltered experience? 😂😂😂. I always have to remind people that Woodland Hills is technically the city of LA.

  5. Seems like there are two separate issues at play here:

    1. Mayo on a hot dog.
    2. LA danger dogs.

They’re definitely saying they’re unfamiliar with #1 but it’s unclear if “never heard of this” also means they’re saying they’re unfamiliar with #2, or only unfamiliar with the use of mayo in danger dogs.

You assume mayo is always involved with danger dogs, which I would disagree with. And that therefore they are unfamiliar with both. It could be possible they are familiar with #2 without being familiar with #1.

  6. Is it even the real LA experience if you haven’t eaten a loaded danger dog after a night of partying?

  7. Every one that I’ve had recently has had mayo, not sure how there are so many people that have never had it. There’s not much, just a drizzle along with ketchup, mustard, and onions so it’s not really all that noticeable.

Also – downvote away if you must but imo we should do away with the term “danger dog”, no one gets sick from these any more often than they do food from taco trucks or anywhere else and it comes off mildly racist at best

I think it’s crazy seeing all the people in this thread saying they get street dogs but that they don’t have mayo on them. i swear it’s a default option every time i order one; i never have to ask for it, my bacon wrapped dog comes with mustard, kethcup, mayo, onions, peppers. wonder if you all who haven’t had it make very specific orders at the carts?

I’m from AZ and we have Sonoran dogs that have mayo on them. So fucking good.

  10. Chrizilla_

Weird. I’ve only had LA dogs with mayo on them. To see how many folks haven’t really is a testament to how big and diverse LA is lol

  11. OKcomputer1996

Absolutely accurate. A lot of fairly recent transplants claim to “be from” LA because they have lived there for more than 10 years.

Mexicans love mayo on hot dogs. It is a danger dog thing as well.

I thought mayo on hot dogs was the only way ppl made them. . . But I’m Mexican-American, so maybe it’s a Mexican thing? (Born & Raised in LA)

Dunno about California but it’s absolutely an LA thing. Though, it’s one you’d have to go out into the world to see. Maybe they’re restaurants only?

  15. Mattandjunk

I just wish we had Sonoran hot dogs out here (disclaimer: I’m not from LA). Those things are perfect on a night out and I don’t get why they’re not all over here but can be found easily in Phoenix.

Living in LA can also mean never going to East LA or even downtown, or Horrors, never consuming a true LA Dog. Some people.

  17. MapleMammoth

I didn’t know it was specifically an LA thing because my dad ate his hot dogs just like that. But it makes sense because he was born and raised in LA.

I’ma Californian, I put mayo on my hot dogs and chili dogs…mmmmm gooood…👍😁

LA is a huge place with different cultures and trends. bacon wrapped hot dog is a must have after a night of clubbing but if youre not into that scene and the street food, you could possibly miss. i mean you drive 20mins east or west from where you are and people talk different and dress different. totally understandable

Back in 2004 after coming out of my after school classes to make up for my bad grades in high school in the El Sereno area, there would be an Ice Cream truck that would post up in front of the school. They sold hot dogs with any desired toppings. The first time I asked for it I told the person to put everything on it, so I saw him add a good amount of mayo, ketchup, mustard, beef chili, chopped onions and chopped hot yellow peppers… I feel in love with the combination, but they mayo just made everything on the hot dog taste so good. Ever since then I always add mayo on my hot dog.

This thread is making me feel like the Mandela effect or everyone is so drunk they never noticed what goes on them but …….The default bacon wrapped hot dog has ketchup/mustard/mayo/peppers/onions!

  22. tomjoad2020ad

Loved in Southern California my entire life and never heard of mayo on a hot dog. I’ve heard of bacon wrapped dogs of course but they don’t sound appealing to me (I generally don’t like bacon) and so I’ve never tried one, and would not intuitively understand mayo to be a part of one

  23. theschnipdip

Never heard of anyone ever mentioning a bacon wrapped hotdog with mayo was ever a staple of LA let alone california.

  24. HollywoodBlueguy

Maybe he doesn’t know any Mexicans.

  25. Duckfoot2021

Trust me, MOST Angelenos don’t want mayo anywhere near their hot dogs.

  26. pingucat

There’s probably mayo at the street dog stands but I always just order mine with mustard and completely ignored the mayo

  27. Decends2

Tbh, id never heard of mayo on a hot dog till the beginning scene of avengers endgame.

Just randomly had this post come up on my homepage. Didn’t know I needed to try Mayo and bacon on a hotdog until now. Going to blow my Midwestern mind
