Hi guys— the past 2 days I’ve really been craving these potatoes. Is there anywhere I can go in Austin that sells these? Thank you so much. 😅

Last week I was dreaming of opening a Korean streetfood restaurant that sold these alongside Korean Street toast and other things.

It’s not on their menu – but apparently the seoulju cooks know how to make it and can make it for you according to a yelp review. you should call and ask!
I’ve only seen this at wurst fest and the rodeo/fair.
greatestcookiethief
it’s a actually just potato sliced thin, not that crunchy as it seemed.

Well I was about to say Jennie’s Smoked Burgers and Tornado Fries in Fredericksburg. But I looked them up and learned that they closed permanently in 2017. Sorry folks. They were good though.

H Mart (maybe other Korean stores) sell a frozen version you can make at home.
Otherwise, I’d check Mexican snack trucks/stores.

Tornado potato? It is a chip-on-a-stick

Round Rock Outlet Mall has a place called Galumbos that has those potatoes.

Oh hey! That’s a spiro-papa! That’s how you know I’m from the valley lol. If you’re willing to make the trip to the valley they are everywhere here.

Interestingly, I remember a couple years ago they had this on the menu at the Sa Ten on airport. That location closed but maybe one day they may have it again at the other one? Just thought I’d share. I know it’s a Japanese place but definitely this and pretty sure was called tornado potato as well.

Have seen it on a carnival food truck at the expo center. Maybe check Pecan St festival or an event that brings the “carnie” food trucks.

My sister and her husband run a carnival themed food truck and sell these. They live in Waco.

The carnival that pops up by the intersection of 71/I-35 every couple of months will have them.
Nebulainbloom
Had no idea they were a Koren street food. In the Valley, they’re a spiropapa! I bet you could find them at the flea markets in town.

Couple of months at the State Fair.

Most carnivals, maybe the art festival, and definitely the state fair. You can also make them pretty easily. Just a heads up, as cool as it looks it is just a french fry

A bit of a drive, but the San Antonio market has these.

You can make these at home. Idk why you would go somewhere special for a potato cut in a fancy style and then either baked or fried. Also, I’m pretty sure these have existed in the south for as long as I can remember, maybe with different seasonings.
Edit: just watched a video on how to do it, you skewer a Yukon potato then cut it down to the skewer in a spiral shape. Afterwards brush it with oil and put some seasoning on it then bake for 25-30 mins.

I saw a frozen version at Hmart yesterday in cedar Park, where all the potstickers are

It’s not on a stick but they sell this shape in bite sized pieces at songbird over at meanwhile. You don’t get the whimsy but they fry the potatoes in beef tallow.
