We walked in when the door opened at 4:00pm Saturday. Five of us. Initially they said the could take us at 5:30, which we couldn’t do. So it felt like we gave it a good shot but no… when suddenly some official activity took place and we were told they could seat us right away. It was a magical meal with extraordinary service, and we had the best time and felt and expressed our deepest gratitude. Ya gotta go. Damarr and the whole team deserve all the praise.

  1. Really incredible food. Worth a trip if you don’t live nearby.

What is the powder on top of the gumbo? Looks like filé?

I’ve never seen it that way but that’s a damn good color on the roux. Wife and I have reservations later this month. Very excited to try it out

Virtue is so good!!! Haven’t been for a while, and it looks like the menu’s changed a bit, so thanks for the reminder to plan another visit soon, OP!

So glad you got to enjoy it, it’s a special place. My favorites have been the catfish, the gizzards and dirty rice, mac n cheese, cornbread, and collard greens (along with the short ribs which my wife always gets). So you get an excuse for a return trip!

  8. I hate tomatoes in almost all forms, and their fried green tomatoes are in my top 10 dishes eaten since I’ve lived in this city.
