This week, we’re doing a tri-merge featuring **Dumbo, Vinegar Hill and Navy Yards**!

(The reason for the Tri-merge is that Vinegar Hill is really tiny and I’m pretty sure there’s not that many spots in Navy Yards)

Some optional prompts:

* What are some of your favorite food spots or “hidden gems”?
* Any “must have” or go to dishes from those particular spots?
* Are there any points of interest or events that is worth going out of the way to visit?

We’re going by this unofficial [Google Map overlay](https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1VYN-6Vkk01byUCF7P13rT6ORT5g) as a GENERAL outline as to what the neighborhoods are. It’s not a strict requirement but try not to go too far outside of the boundaries.

  1. Evil Twin Brewing is a great spot for beer, but also very respectable selection of non-beer.

Tiny bit outside of DUMBO (by a block) you have Juliana’s, Grimaldis, and L&B Spumoni Gardens new spot for pizza. I definitely prefer other pizza over them, but when in the neighborhood, these are still quite good options.

I’ve heard Vinegar Hill House is really good but I haven’t been even though my friend lives across the street, haha.

Vinegar Hill House brunch overall was very okay but the pancakes were incredible

    Em Vietnamese Bistro
is really good imo! Their crispy tofu and clam dishes are great.

  5. arparpsrp

Cafe Gitane is def a Vinegar Hill hidden gem

It’s touristy, but the rooftop at the Time Out Market in DUMBO has one of the best happy hour deals in Brooklyn: a rotating selection of three of their excellent, handcrafted cocktails are only $9, house red and white are $7, and $5 draught beers

Monday to Friday, 4 to 7 pm

For food — Gran Electrica for pretty good Mexican food in Dumbo, Cafe Gitane in Vinegar Hill (it’s low key / casual but a good vibe and reasonably priced), Em Vietnamese Bistro, Celestine is higher end but has great water views. BEEPUBLIC is a cute, surprisingly spacious cafe with good coffee – they also have food but I haven’t tried it. The food at Butler is also good though it’s often crowded and the seating is first-come-first-serve.

In terms of points of interest, it’s hard to beat walking along the Brooklyn Bridge Promenade on a summer evening. There’s an outpost of OddFellows ice cream by the water once you get far enough along.

Edited to add: Randolph’s Brewery can get crowded but is a large space with a lot to do and decent food / drinks (they have mini bowling lanes, sports events on the TV, etc.) and Rooftop Reds is in the Navy Yard – it’s nyc’s only commercial vineyard and a great place to have a drink when it’s warm.

I’m a huge fan of Bark BBQ in Time Out Market.

Ruben Santana started off as a popup pitmaster, learning how to Texas style BBQ in a state that really didn’t have it at all. So he learned the tricks of the trade, and improved for close to 10 years probably now? And he has a brick and mortar now in Time Out Market 5th floor that gets huge lines because of his Dominican-Texas style BBQ.

Low and slow, but with dominican seasonings and sides.

  9. Lucky Rabbit Noodles is a hole in the wall in Dumbo under the Manhattan bridge with amazing dumplings, noodles, and curry chicken.

Owner is a super nice guy who really cares about the food. It’s a tiny spot but good for a quick bite or take-out to eat in bk bridge park.

They make up a name for a neighborhood, like Vinegar Hill, and people don’t question it as status quo because no one’s been here long enough to know what status quo is which is a metaphor for a lot of things in nyc

  11. Everyone out here calling out the most touristy spots possible lol. You couldn’t pay me to walk into time out market again smdh.

Bridge coffee shop is dope. Good af Dominican food for an amazing price, cafeteria style.

On the hipster side of things, burrow coffee shop has the most delicate lovely little cookies and pastries. Their famous thing is they do awesome portrait cookies, like actually very good ones.

Usagi the art gallery has a sushi and coffee/matcha bar in the back of it. Expensive but I really loved this chirashi cup they used to have.

And uhhhhggggg Almondine….I miss that place so much. I dont like quiche but I LOVE their quiche, so soft and buttery and smooth. All of their desserts are impeccable and their sandwiches are very tasty too.

On a non food recommendation, there’s a famous Japanese style vintage store called Front Street General which is super legit if you’re into like, heritage Americana clothing and Japanese stationary.
