I saw Himalaya Kosheli Nepali & Indian is now listed on Eater’s 38 Essential Restaurants in Austin. Congrats to them!
I’d never been or even noticed their restaurant, it’s NW Austin at the near end of the same strip as Asia Cafe, Chen’s Noodles, etc at 183 & Spicewood Springs. BTW – has anyone been to Fat Dragon? I see the sushi restaurant moved in where the Cajun place used to be.
I’m not too familiar with Nepali dishes, I got their chicken chowmein and my eyes about popped out my head when I saw the size of the plate they put down. For $11 it felt like they over delivered on this dish! The noodles are served in a Nepali street style sauce – not much liquid at all but well spiced, I really liked everything about it. This really feels likes a family style portion you could share with a table in addition to an other entree or sides.
I also had fish pakoras (fried tilapia, $8), it’s a more modest portion of tasty strips and a red pepper/mayo dipping sauce.
Took half the noodles to go, now I have dinner, too. Felt like I got a pretty good deal. 👍

Fat Dragon is known for soup dumplings. It’s not really a place to eat in — just order them to go. Best in the city, possibly.
Next time you gotta get the momo and try the different sauces. It’ll destroy your culo but it’s worth it.
I really want to try this place. I miss Dynasty. I used to go there before the pandemic. I like fat dragon, but I wish they kept the dynasty decor and vibe, it’s a super bare looking restaurant. I prefer Asia cafe to fat dragon.
Oh my that looks like my happy place. Does anyone know any good noodles down south? Like way south William cannon or slaughter?
I went. Check my post. I sat in the same booth.
That spot is heaven
I was so excited about this — but they are closed on Monday. See y’all there Tuesday.
Talapia is nasty
