Hello! I’m currently researching the best breakfast sandwiches in Austin. Since breakfast sandwiches vary wildly in price and ingredients used, I’m using 3 different price brackets- Cheap ($5 and under, [previous post link here](https://www.reddit.com/r/austinfood/comments/14btuju/best_cheap_breakfast_sandwiches_in_austin/)), Moderate ($5.01-10), and Expensive ($10.01 and up). I’m coming up with a top 5 for each price bracket.
These are my top 5 for the moderate bracket:
Arturo’s Underground Cafe ($10):
This is a cool little spot buried in the Texas Chili Parlor quadrant of sub-campus downtown (17th street between Lavaca and Guadalupe). Arturo’s seems to do a healthy lunch crowd, but they also have a great selection of breakfast sandwiches up until 11am (they’re sticklers about this so get there on time). No matter what breakfast sandwich you get, I recommend subbing in their jalapeno cheese bread, which is made in-house and gives their sandwich a soft lil cheesy, spicy kick. I do sausage and egg but they have bacon and ham available for protein options too.
Sour Duck (9.99):
Sour Duck’s “Ahmad’s Breakfast Sammie” is a delicious bundle of breakfast joy wrapped inside a soft pretzel/challah bun. It’s sausage egg and cheese with the unexpected bite of cilantro and onions hidden inside which gives the sandwich a little acidic kick. I hate saying “brekkie sammie” tbh but if that’s what they wanna call it then it’s worth it.
Big City Bagels: ($8ish bucks depending on what you get)
This place is pretty far up in north Austin but their east coast-inspired breakfast sandwich ethos is worth the trip no matter where you live in the city. Big City exclusively does bagel sandwiches. Typically bagels are not my favorite bread choice (I’ll expand on this in the comments) but the fact that they have taylor ham and just their overall vibe makes this little shop very endearing to me. The guy who runs it is really nice too. Yes I know other places have taylor ham, but it comes together in a way at Big City that I like more than all other places. This is not a place with a lot (or really any) indoor seating or ambience, so just order online and munch your sandwich on the way to work. They prefer you order ahead online.
Lazarus brewing: ($9-10 depending on your choice of protein)
If you go to the east side often you’ve probably had one of Lazarus’ steaming cauldrons of queso fundido, but did you know that they serve one of the heftiest breakfast sandwiches in the city? Their breakfast torta comes on a huge french bun (called a pan france) which is loaded with beans, egg, cheese, pico de gallo, mexican crema, and your choice of protein. I like the chorizo, carnitas, migas (nice lil crunch) or bacon. This is easily big enough to order and share with a hangover partner, just crack a window on the way home because this thing is smothered in beans.
Brew & Brew
Brew & Brew’s Son of a Bun is a tasty, filling, well-rounded little treat of a breakfast sandwich. They slip in a lovely little packet of hot sauce with every sandwich, so you can add some heat as desired. The first time I saw that hot sauce packet I fell in love. If you’re starting up day drinking on east 6th you can begin with a Son of a Bun to get some food in your stomach, then pivot to any number of East 6th’s day drinking/brunch spots.
I made a video to accompany this research which [can be found here](https://www.instagram.com/p/CvDGgdGJTdY/) if you want to watch it.
I hope you all enjoyed this list, please check these places out if you can. Start putting pennies in your piggy banks because up next I’m covering the expensive bracket of breakfast sandwiches in the $10.01 and up category. See you soon.

I thought you were asking but you actually have some good info here, thank you
Wham Bam Bagels in South Austin, $8 bagel breakfast sandwich. Order ahead and grab an iced latte at Spokesman before you pick up your bagel.
Bird Bird Biscuit has a few without chicken if that’s not breakfasty enough for ya… nice biscuits. Side of bacon is a LOT of bacon too.
The Queen Beak at Bird Bird Biscuit would be in your $10+ category, but it’s also a large piece of chicken and would be substantial enough for a lunch sandwich. Delicious seasoning/sauce on it as well. And this is from somebody who doesn’t even really like biscuits.
Regarding bagels for breakfast sandwiches- I have come to realize that like 70% of the enjoyment I get from a sandwich is from the bread used.
Typically bagels are so chewy they cause you to have to chomp down on your sandwich and cause your fillins to spill out the sides. I did include Big City in this list because their bagels are sourced from Rosens which are nice and soft and I think it just works well with their Taylor ham.
Dia’s has a good breakfast sandwich.
Uncle Nicky’s. Porkroll at Wholy Bagel. #2 at Dia’s

Many taquerias will have a chorizo and egg torta for like $5. Add potatoes to it and you’ll be in a food coma until the afternoon.
Nate’s Baked Goods has an egg and pimento cheese mix with brisket or spinach and bbq sauce on a great bun. Really really good and relatively unique.
Think it’s $7 or $8.

Also, for ~$8 you can get a 6pack of sausage egg and cheese croissant sandwiches at HEB. Wrap in a paper towel and nuke for ~40 seconds on both sides, it’s solid.
