We patronized the Luby’s near Lakeline 2-4 times a month before it closed years ago. Still miss those quick, solid meals at reasonable prices after running errands. I admit I’ve never considered driving to one in Austin, though.

I think that location on Slaughter also has a one of the last Fudruckers but I have not gone that far to confirm.

Glad they didn’t shutter this one. I don’t know what I’d do for that nostalgic cafeteria cooking if it was gone. Grew up eating Furr’s and Luby’s, and it’s in my dna now. Everything tastes slightly to majorly like butter, and it’s the only place I know of where I can get liver and onions if I want it. And now because of this post, I want some baked almondine and some sides with too much gravy.

Luby’s is for people who think Applebee’s is too upscale, and lack a microwave to heat up their own TV dinners.

The Luby’s on Slaughter is awesome! Their chicken fried chicken is always delicious. We go there like once a month. I would be so sad if it closed!

Growing up in my small town Luby’s was one of the few restaurants that was open in Sunday so we ate there every Sunday after church, often waiting in line for 45 minutes with everyone else in town. I STILL love square fish & liver and onions!

Long live Lubys!!

Whataburgers are now in this mode two after years of them all being consistently good. The one on Brodie and Slaughter is very good and well run. Terry Black’s although pricey is delicious and high caliber overall on Barton springs. The one in Lockhart is just ok…

Not quite Austin, but we love the Cotton Patch Restaurant in Round Rock. They have other locations we’ve tried that are hit or miss. Sometimes excellent; sometimes not. But the RR location never disappoints. It’s a bit smaller and the staff are so friendly. Reminds me of a family-run place. (Hwy 79 & AW Grimes)

The Luby’s on 183 is a little neglected, but the food is as good as ever and staff remember my kids and I. They are so good to us. When my wife’s hours changed she couldn’t go with us for our weekly dinner. It took about three weeks for one of the older ladies to work up the nerve and ask me if everything was “ok” and express that they were all worried lol
