I’ve been there twice and had one great experience and one decent experience. Food was solid both times for what they are going for with it. Love the kitschy décor and they have some fun mugs.
I definitely push people away from the large format drinks, especially the largest ones. They aren’t as interesting(for someone who loves tiki drinks) or well-balanced as the individual drinks, and that is what let them down the second time.

We’ve been going there every month since they opened, and we love them with all of our hearts.
The Pros:
* Amazing atmosphere * Great service that always makes us feel welcome * Great drinks, great food, and a huge drink menu * The Stranded on Saturn is a triumph * There’s been just enough change over time to keep things interesting * Their mugs are remarkable
The Cons:
* They got rid of the Subuta. Bring back the Subuta! Yes, it was controversial and weird, but it was the best drink ever! * Many of their drinks seem to be excessively citrus-forward, even for tiki/tropical drinks. It’s strange how few cool/coconut drinks they have – although the Painkiller is rad. * Those beef skewers in the Pupu Platter are one of the best things I’ve had in Austin and yet you can’t get them without a $60 investment in the whole damn platter.

My last experience was awful, they were out of two menu items and their menu is so small it didn’t really leave much else.
I had to go by whataburger on my way home to feed myself.

The Sichuan wings (which I found out you can order off menu a la carte!!!) are soooo good and the taro tots are always a crowd-pleaser. I don’t really think of it as a meal place, more of a drink and get a nice snack type of place. After sampling all the drinks on the regular menu (we take all visitors there so we’ve been a lot), I think I prefer the ones on the paper menu (that don’t come in the fancy glasses). Strip and Go Naked is my fave drink on the regular menu, and I actually love all the large format drinks, too, but that might just be because I normally get only a few sips of them before whatever group I’m with has finished them off! Love the rum barrel, and the show that accompanies it. A visit to Tiki is a bit pricy but worth it for the calm, fun vacation vibes that transport you to another place for a couple hours, IMO.

The pro strat is to snack and drink at tiki and then sober up next door with a bowl of ramen.

They got a 93 on their last inspection in September 2022. So thats pretty good!

I wanna try this place at some point, but it’s always packed to the brim. Gunna have to reserve like 2 weeks ahead I guess.

My food was dry and pretty boring tasting when I went last week. Drink was loaded with off flavors. Biggest restaurant disappointment yet I wanted to love this place.
