Oh, hell no. They make it even more dangerous for bikers, they take away what little parking we have, and they create even more sidewalk bottlenecks than we already have. With the dining sheds, some staggered-light avenues are whittled down to a single lane when trucks are double-parked making their deliveries.
Free real estate for restaurants is not how our public space should be used. If the entirety of Broadway were turned into a pedestrian space — yeah, go nuts.. but the current situation is awful.

Definitely not. People should not be supporting restaurants taking over public sidewalk and street space for outdoor dining. It makes it difficult for people to get around and was only meant to be a temporary measure during covid. These shacks need to be taken down.

As a restaurant owner, I don’t support this. Eating outside sucks anyways.

I see so many rats in those things when I walk to work early. No thanks. Get rid of them.

Just posted about this in r/AskNYC the other day. Had no clue this was such a hot debate. Everyone I know in nyc loves these things, myself included. Obviously they have their drawbacks but overall a great addition to get people outside and expanding the amount of tables available at restaurants we all want to eat this benefitting local business. Hate the mentality of “I don’t like it! Get rid of it!” Instead of just working to improve something a lot of people like so more people buy into it? Isn’t that the beauty of urban living to begin with – working together and compromising?

[Anyone notice the covered outdoor seating from COVID times are disappearing from the streets? Def a bummer.](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskNYC/comments/15aeo9s/anyone_notice_the_covered_outdoor_seating_from/)
