This week, we’re featuring **Bushwick!**
We’re going by this unofficial [Google Map overlay](https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1VYN-6Vkk01byUCF7P13rT6ORT5g) as a GENERAL outline as to what the neighborhoods are. It’s not a strict requirement but try not to go too far outside of the boundaries.
Some optional prompts:
* What are some of your favorite food spots or “hidden gems”?
* Any “must have” or go to dishes from those particular spots?
* Are there any points of interest or events that is worth going out of the way to visit?

Nenes taqueria, taqueria Al pastor. Nenes has the best Birria in all of NYC and I will fight to defend that statement. Birria landia aint got shit on nenes!
Taqueria Al Pastor has the best al pastor and bistec tacos I’ve had in NYC so far
Also, a little off topic but Bushwick is probably the best bar neighborhood in NYC
Tong. Some of the dishes are a little mid, but the Crab Curry and Crab Fried Rice are both excellent.
Also, if you order the cold salads spicy, they are extremely legit – one of the most challenging plates spice wise I’ve eaten in NYC in the last couple years. Loaded with bird’s eye chilis and extremely delicious.
Somewhat off topic, but there are probably others having difficulty with this too — how do I get the overlay to stop showing? I’m on Android.
EDIT: figured it out following this – https://support.google.com/maps/thread/29801111/how-do-i-turn-off-layer-in-google-maps-on-iphone-from-outside-link-that-i-clicked?hl=en
L’imprimerie is a cozy french bakery with good croissants, and i think they also have coffee from Sey.
Knickerbocker Bagels is great
Loveless Coffees is one of my favorite coffee places in the city
Otis is one I keep hearing a lot about but haven’t tried yet. Carmenta’s for good Italian sandwiches. Eugene J. Candy Co is fucking awesome. Mao Mao has some great thai food and a dope atmosphere. Lots of amazing bars and nightclubs in Bushwick too
Eyval is fantastic
* Nene’s Taqueria – amazing quesabirria tacos and don’t forget the consome for dipping into. I seriously order from here once a week since they opened.
* Taqueria Al Pastor – great al pastor tacos (also carne asada) but don’t sleep on the volcan which is like a tostada with cheese melted over it
* Ops Pizza – one of the best neo-neapolitan-style pizzas in the city
* Gordo’s Cantina – often go here for brunch as I love their chilaquiles verde and my wife loves the enfrijoladas but everything I’ve had here has been good
* SEY Coffee and Loveless Coffee – there are a lot of quality coffeeshops in the neighborhood but these two are special as they’re coffee roasters rather than just using someone else’s beans
* L’imprimerie – French bakery with some of the best croissants in the city. Great loaves of bread too.
* Klom Klorm and Forever Thai – really solid neighborhood Thai spots
* Bunna – vegan Ethiopian restaurant. I am certainly not a vegan but this place is really good.
Guacuco for arepas. The arepas themselves are great (especially the pernil), but the sauces are just so so good.
In addition to what other people have already recommended:
Santa Salsa—Great Venezuelan food and cheap drinks! Would recommend as a pre-going out dinner spot if you are in the area
Semkeh—Solid Mediterranean in an area without much
Derek’s Taco Truck—In my opinion, this taco truck is better than Tacos Al Pastor. Very solid Mexican food, and this is coming from someone from California
Foster Sundry—a cute coffee shop with sandwiches and cheese! also a butcher shop and convenience store. chill lunch spot.
While in Kathmandu—I am cheating and this place is in Ridgewood, but it is delicious Nepalese food. Cash only!
Mao Mao, Tong, Eyval, Tortilleria Mexicano Los Hermanos,
It might sound crazy but Carmenta’s is my favorite Italian food in the city right now. No frills, all homemade from what I can tell, old school Italian-American food. Perhaps it’s a nostalgia thing, but it hits a soft spot for me.
Nook is one of the few coffee shops I feel like I can actually get work done at, even though it’s usually pretty buzzy. Plus, they have a few beers on tap so when 2PM on a Wednesday feels like 6PM on a Friday I can grab a beer or two to keep me going.
I would also say Mika, but RIP :'(
Have to add Queen for Mediterranean everything! Best, best happy hour w deals on mezze too!!!
-Dock Asian eatery spicy miso ramen is so good
-Mominette bistro dollar oysters are amazing, their eggs Benedict is one of the best I’ve had
-nenes, obviously
-there’s a taco stand usually outside the Morgan stop that has great lengua (ran by these twins)
Ichiran for Ramen – Every time I go I increase the spiciness level, next time will be 10
Strange Flavor Burger Shack
BrookLAN is a really fun bar if you are into gaming
Lucy’s Vietnamese
Also, I heard Ops is really good for pizza, but haven’t had the chance to try it myself yet
My favorite (not best) spot in Bushwick is the Döner Kebab stand that’s a part of Turks Inn!
el charro mexican bakery – conchas go crazy
abe’s pagoda bar – old school tiki bar vibe, heard the food is good but only been for drinks
la perla del ulua – one of the only honduran places ive seen around
sea wolf on wyckoff , yia yia flushing , take out: nuez on wykoff, inca on wyckoff
Cherry on Top and The Ten Bells are two of my favorite wine bars in the entire city
Monkey King
La Cantine – amazing sandwiches
I’m surprised no one’s mentioned Dahlia! Their burritos are so good, they’re $10 and include Guac, and every protein is phenomenal
Hi Low Beverage Company. Excellent pastries, great wine and beer selection. The place I can go in the morning to grab coffee with a donut and then go in the evening to try orange wine.
High Low has outstanding beer selection, banging Vietnamese food. Coffee is great too in the AM.
Foster Sundry has banging sandwiches.
Taqueria Al Pastor has banging tacos.
Ops is my favorite Neapolitan in the city.
Circo’s is one of the best Italian bakeries in the city.
I’d travel for:
* Falansai is awesome Vietnamese
* Tabare is Uruguayan, and sooo good. This is a staple of ours and, having tried pretty much everything on the menu, it’s hard to go wrong. The tuna and olive empanada sounds weird but is very tasty. Good desserts (alfajor rustico is A+). Fantastic affordable cocktails too.
* Eyval is pretty much as awesome as everyone says it is.. the dessert that’s like a sponge cake with rose water cream and pistachios is craaazy good
* Bunna is unique and tasty. I recommend their house coffee, it has cardamom among other things in it and is so good. You used to be able to buy bags of it, not sure if they still do that or not but I’ve often given them as gifts.
* Maite is also pretty legit, love the squid ink burrata and toasted bread
Might not travel for but if you’re in the neighborhood:
* Bushwick Bakery has awesome croissant egg sandwiches where they make the croissants shaped like slices of bread. Same owners as L’Impremerie.
* I haven’t been in a while but I’ve really liked Bushniwa in the past. The miso eggplant is great.
* idk if this counts as Bushwick but Grimm Brewery is nearby and their beers are awesome. They just put a pizza place on the roof and idk how it is but looks pretty good.
* Taqueria Cocoyoc has amazing goat nachos but they’re a bit pricy. They are also huge however, easily two meals. Their agua sandia is great. Love their chilaquiles when I’m hung over.
Surprised no one has mentioned Sobre Masa- great Mexican food with unique dishes. I also liked Tong but did find it very spicy
Any recs for tacos de lengua around here? Seems like it’s al pastor or birria only wherever I look.
Encebollado de Víctor is #1
Don’t sleep on Sushi & Noodles – no frills hole in the wall run by an adorable old couple. Killer yaki udon and ramen, sushi is always super fresh
Monkey king‼️
had some incredible pho at money cat last summer, been looking for an excuse to go back
I go to Fazio’s for pizza an embarrassing amount, particularly for Sicilian slices. Their cannolis slap too, imo
Knickerbocker Bagels is also a local staple!
