I don’t know much about wine and would love some input from you guys on the year (2004) and if it would be smart to hold on to it for any longer?

Not the greatest of years (2004 will always be in the shadow of 2005), but clearly a wine that will last another decade or two if stored well.

But since you have a whole case, why not open a bottle every other year or so?

Don’t know much about wine? Why do you have a case of Lafite Rothschild? 😂

I’d probably crack one to try! Had this one 5 years ago and it was top primary for my liking back then, should be starting to show some development now.

2004 is among the best drinking vintages of Bordeaux of the 2000s in my opinion. Cool rainy summer leads to softer, low alcohol wines.

Lafite is, of course one of the wines of the vintage from the left bank. They’re right around where I like them, striking a balance between fruit and more earth qualities, but are definitely not in danger of dying (if stored properly).

I love the idea another poster mentioned of drinking a bottle a year, and watching them develop and change. I would recommend at least trying one in the next year, as I think the wine is spectacular currently.

I’m no Bordeaux (or any region at all) expert, but I think that wine still has a long way to go.

I think your question is answered, but what the fuck else you got in there?

2004 Lafite? Unfortunately, it’s probably undrinkable. Feel free to send me the case and I’ll ensure it is properly disposed of at no cost to you.

But seriously, as others said, thar case of Lafite will age for a long, long time. Whether it is “smart” to hold on to it depends on what you are planning to do when you stop holding it (drink, attempt to sell, give as expensive gifts, etc.).

2004 bad vintage si better to seek right now.

Keep in mind than what ever expensif wine you store. If it s not store properly and you can t prove the storage. It can be hard to sell. Because badly store for 15 years, you will sell vinager and rare are the people ready to take this risk.
Or will be people not knowing much about wine
