Has anyone experienced their egg getting moldy after not using it for a few weeks? I opened it today to see mold everywhere. I scrubbed it real good then let it heat up before cooking on it. I did have some left over lump coal in there from last time that I threw out. What can I do to prevent it from happening?

I have no recommendation and even what I suggest will cause irreparable harm. I would take revenge by fire. Light it up hot!!!!!!

Leaving the top and bottom vents open when not in use will help but may not completely eliminate the problem, especially if you live in a humid area.

I had that happen ONE time in the many, many years I’ve owned Kamados, and it was the only time I ever left the chimney cap uncovered and allowed rain water into it. I suspect that if you can keep moisture out of it, you’ll also keep mold out of it. There have been periods of time where I haven’t used one of mine for months at a time and there’s never any mold, but they’re also all covered when not in use.

As for yours, do a long hot burn and then use normally.

I have had this before. I dont think its mold. Its moisturized oil or charcoal. Like if you leave an oily rag out in the rain then throw it in a damp area. I think there is a post about this on bge forums.

I wipe everything down and then fire up the grill to 450+ for 30 min before i put anything on

Wipe clean, hot burn (250 deg celsius).

    Happens often in Belgian weather.

High temp cleaning burn! I let mine get up to 700 for a good hour or two when I found mold and that sucker was nearly white again!
