I’ve been eating at my local Taco truck for over 4 years. They just put up their inspection grade. Would you keep eating there?

Honestly I probably wouldn’t be eating there in the first place. I’ve had some really bad luck with food trucks and their food, particularly with Mexican food, so I tend to avoid the food trucks almost altogether. A “C” rating isn’t too great so that’s even more reason I think.

I worked at a restaurant and you have no idea how hard it is to get a C. But then again, ignorance is bliss.

C has to be a ton of critical violations (things that literally lead directly to food borne illness like holding temps, lack of hand washing etc) should be able to look it up to see and determine if your comfortable with the risk

  4. EnvironmentalShoe5

I would not eat there again until they get an A.

Restaurants can get points knocked off if they don’t post “employees must wash hands” signs, if they don’t properly label food containers, not enough caulk in gaps, don’t post choking posters etc. So that could be a scary C or a not very scary C

  6. If anything, they’re not going to continue doing the things that caused them to get that C in the first place. The only problem I can think of is that for at least those 4 years, they were doing things that would earn them that C. But if you’ve never gotten sick, and you really like the food, why stop going now?

Years and years ago, there was this small, hole in the wall place just off Times Square that made amazing pad thai. I’d go there almost every week. One day, I went there to discover that it was closed down for health violations. I still miss that pad thai, though, and would eat there again in a second if it opened back up.

Yes. Unless you’ve noticed it’s made you sick multiple times

  8. scarletts_skin

absolutely not. I won’t even eat at a B. Shit has to be VILE for a C. Truly.

  9. PMacDiggity

La Bernardin had a B at one point due to some technical issues, but if you had surgery in the kitchen after their usual nightly cleaning you’d be fine. A C is pretty bad though.

  10. Nope. Worked for years at an A rated restaurant and it was gross. I can’t imagine what C is like.

Considering some of the best food I’ve ever eaten has come from places with some of the most questionable hygienic standards, definitely.

I used to work in restaurants. We called restaurants with a C “poop tacos” cause that’s what we thought they must have been serving to get that grade.

You can look up the specific violations. I would find out what they did and then make a judgment call.

  14. RobbyTurbo

You can look up what the violations are. I encourage you to do that and come to your own conclusions.

Fun fact: NYC vermin do not discriminate. From the street cart all the way to Michelin star rated restaurants, the rats that outnumber us in this city about four to one dine at them all.

If it agrees with your stomach and your tapeworm….

I eat street tacos in Tijuana, Mex City, and Puerto Vallarta. Yeah, go for it. It builds character.

An A means amazing quality of food and handling. Nobody should eat at anything less. A C rating means the actual quality of the ingredients used is bad, there are many technical and constructional issues with the establishment, or the people that run it are straight up idiots who violate countless codes.

  19. Major_Minor_Junior

Absolutely not. Too many restaurants to deal with someone who puts my guts at risk.

  20. greenthumbnyc

Hard no. C is basically all the nasty things you can think of behind closed kitchen doors.

  21. manicpixidreamgirll

C grade and its a truck.. Where theres no bathroom.. And the dudes are in there all day? Might as well go eat in a public toilet

  22. nathanturner

If you have to ask, you already know what the answer is.

If your body can handle whatever they may be growing, what’s the problem?

  24. realrichieporter

If you like how their roaches taste, carry on.

  25. modernDayKing

You can look up what the violations were on the nyc website.

But be forewarned. You’ll never want to eat anywhere ever again.

  26. stumblon

Yep. Passing grade is a passing grade. They didn’t get shut down so pass the hot sauce.

  27. marcololol

Suspicious meat can kill you bro be careful

Who am I to criticize based on my grades?

If you’re interested read these violations. Most of them are clear and totally reprehensible but too many of these are vague enough that if the city wants to strong arm restaurants into paying them some fines an inspector can find health code violations pretty easily even in the cleanest most well maintained restaurants.

I believe that the Ny DOH is important but it needs to be reformed so that these vague fine connected violations that are loosely tied to food safety don’t exist. I have gotten points for having a lightbulb out in a very well lit room just because it technically fits the description of the violation.

    Perfect example of a violation that could be applied to almost anything because what is the definition of properly maintained;

    “Non-food contact surface (fixtures, decorative

material, fans, etc.) not properly maintained or

    equipment not properly maintained”

It can be done but it is also a stretch to connect “non food contact surfaces and equipment,” to food safety.
