I’ve always fantasized about selling some cooked foods from home but have been scared off by the illegality. The law (until a few weeks ago???) specified that–with a cottage food license–you could sell only certain non-hazardous foods that don’t need temperature control.

Now it seems different, per the article.

Does LA need to implement this bill locally, or is it automatically in effect if you can get your home kitchen registered as a “MEHKO”?

Honestly. I never thought about it but there are probably 400 apartments where I am and if some people cook dinner and sell half of it… I would actually buy it. There are so many different nationalities and age groups here that this would be delicious to try new home cooked meals and just have to go down to the second floor.
If this was allowed now… could change the way we eat or cook. Making twice the amount and sell half and finance food.
    I kind of love that.

If that were the case, I live across the street from the park and I would set up my bbq in my front yard and sell some spicy ribs.

All well and good until somebody gets food poisoning.

Just do it. LA County DPH has no teeth.
