As my title suggest. I noticed some of the recipes use too much salt/oil, which can overpower the flavor from the actual ingredients.

For example, this is the recipe of Vegan Beans ’n’ Greens Stuffed Peppers. It’s a good dish and it’s my first time of making it. The issue I had is 5 out of 6 steps tell me to add oil/salt (as highlighted in the picture below), and most of them did not specify how much oil/salt to add. Usually for every other recipe, I add 1/2 to 1 Tbsp oil for “a drizzle” amount, and 1/4 to 1/8 tsp for “a pinch of salt”. What I didn’t anticipate while cooking was every step told me to add oil and salt, so that adds up to quite a lot of salt and oil (it also adds up more cooking time since I had to measure how much oil/salt is used). For the reference, adults should limit their salt intake to 2300 mg per day (a teaspoon), and around 6 tsp of oil per day.

What I learnt from now on is to skim through the recipe before cooking to see how many steps need oil and salt, and maybe omit some steps of using salt or use less salt/oil.

The recipe used linked here. It’s a well rounded meal and I would make it again next time except reduce the amount of oil and salt: [www.hellofresh.com/recipes/vegan-beans-n-greens–stuffed-peppers-64ad6e089629eec88a416c0d](https://www.hellofresh.com/recipes/vegan-beans-n-greens–stuffed-peppers-64ad6e089629eec88a416c0d)

A drizzle is more like a teaspoon and a pinch is at most 1/8 of a tsp (1/8 is smaller than 1/4). I usually do one or two twists on my salt mill and I don’t add as much salt as it calls for either. Also, make sure you’re using unsalted butter

Dang that is a lot of olive oil! I haven’t tried this one, but sometimes I use bacon drippings instead of oil or butter/oil combo is good. I always go light on salt, it’s way too much.

These items are to your preference. Just omit. I personally do not pay attn to any amts related to oil, salt & pepper, but i also can cook without hello fresh

I have to limit my salt for hypertension. I use half of any liquid flavorings in hf meals, such as the broth packets and never add any salt. Not even a pinch. That helps the food stay in a healthy range for me. I am used to low salt/sodium and think the food tastes great without it. But other people are used to highly salted food, such as most fast food, so they don’t like my choice of low saltiness.
