    # Ingredients

    **For the burger patties:** 1 ½ pounds ground beef (80% lean, 20% fat) Salt and pepper, to taste

    **For the burger assembly:** 4 hamburger buns 4 slices of American cheese Burger toppings of your choice (lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, etc.)

    **For the special sauce:** ½ cup mayonnaise 2 tablespoons ketchup 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish 1 teaspoon yellow mustard ½ teaspoon garlic powder ½ teaspoon onion powder Salt and pepper, to taste

    **For the burger seasoning:** Salt Black pepper Garlic powder Onion powder Paprika

    *Preparation time: 15 minutes Cooking time: 10 minutes Total time: 25 minutes*

    # Instructions

    1. Preheat your grill or stovetop griddle over medium-high heat.
    2. In a bowl, combine all the ingredients for the special sauce. Mix well and set aside.
    3. Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions. Shape each portion into a loose ball.
    4. Heat a cast-iron skillet or heavy-bottomed pan over high heat.
    5. Place a portion of ground beef onto the hot skillet or pan. Using a sturdy spatula, smash the beef ball down onto the cooking surface. Press firmly to create a thin patty. Season the patty with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. Repeat the process for the remaining portions.
    6. Cook the patties for about 2-3 minutes, or until the edges are crispy and browned. Flip each patty and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes. Add a slice of American cheese to each patty and allow it to melt.
    7. While the patties are cooking, toast the hamburger buns on the grill or in a separate pan until golden brown.
    8. Remove the patties from the heat and transfer them to a plate. Allow them to rest for a minute.
    9. Assemble the burgers: Spread a generous amount of the special sauce on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Add a patty with melted cheese on top of the sauce. Layer on your preferred burger toppings. Finally, place the top half of the bun.
    10. Serve the smash burgers immediately and enjoy their irresistible flavors!
