Ok Mexico is a staple, it’s kinda like a mushroom we put it on quesadillas

Make sure you positively identify it if you are gonna eat it. Idk if there are other things that grow on corn that look like this, but funguses are not fun to gamble on as a general rule

If it is in fact huitlacoche , ask it if it got married today… to a famous crow…

It sure looks like it, but I don’t know for sure, I’m no huitlacochino.

Huitlacoche is usually more purple-ish but also I don’t know much about it. I’d confirm and then confirm again before eating it.

That is corn smut, but it looks too old to be tasty anymore. Traditionally prepared in quesadillas, but there’s a lot you can do with it. The flavor is mushroomy and slightly sweet. When it gets too old it becomes bitter.
There are no known corn funguses that look like huitlacoche that will harm you. This is a great beginners foraging find for that reason.

Not the sub for this lol
This is the Corn Smut disease caused by a fungus. It is edible. I cannot say that I’ve eaten it though.
Here’s a link that will tell you a lot more:
