Hello, first timer here. I used Claire Saffitz recipe from the NYT. Wondering if anyone can help me pinpoint what I may have done wrong?
I have an oven thermometer so the oven was at exactly 300°

These look like chocolate macarons. The Cocoa powder can cause the wrinkling if you did not mix the macaronage properly. Or….you didn’t allow them to sit long enough. In my experience the Cocoa powder does something the mix that makes it so that you have to let them set longer than the general recipe allows for. Make sure that you determine whether they are set by running your finger on the surface and making sure they are completely dried over before baking.

I just looked up that recipe and the proportions seem very off to me. Try a recipe from Michelle’s Macarons (French method) or Pies and Tacos (Swiss method) — I’ve had success with both, though I rarely do flavored shells. And definitely watch some YouTube videos of the macaronage process, which is hard to accurately describe in print.
Not bad at all for a first attempt, and I do think the recipe wasn’t doing you any favors. Keep at it!
