I use to go to Daikokuya until I found a new place when I lived in Irvine and now that’s the spot I always go to when I’m craving ramen. There’s one in Pasadena too called Hiro Nori craft ramen, but the original spot is in Irvine. Best ramen spot I’ve had so far. The meat is really tender and tastes really good. The pork bowl is also really amazing so I recommend the combo they sell. You can ask for the free side of chili paste and it takes the flavor of the ramen to the next flavor, really reminds me of the ramen from Japan and I think it tastes better than most of the Japanese ramen spots I went to.

When I lived downtown, my go to for Daikoku was getting the gyoza and the Daikoku ramen during a weekday night.
Yeah, it’s the two things they’re most known for, but why fix what ain’t broke? The spicy miso ramen does float my boat, though.
BTW, for those that are interested, Daikoku now sells their namesake ramen and the spicy miso ramen in a frozen kit. In fact, most folks probably don’t realize that the parent company, Bishamon Group, owns a good amount of Japanese restaurants around the county and sells home versions of multiples of their restaurants and make the Bishamon Junmai Ginjo sake.
Bishamon (with it’s excellent karaoke bar upstairs), Hachioji, Midoh, Curry Express, Lounge Ohjah (in the Mikyao Hotel – great karaoke there), Tamon (also in the Mikayo) are all places owned by Bishamon Group.
Takaaki Kohyama’s an interesting fellow. Folks should read up on him.

Not good ramen. SUPER over-rated, if it’s even over-rated? Their water is awful too. Much better ramen spots around.
