Like Heinlein said, any death can be classified as a cardiac arrest. Just like you technically don’t die from a cocaine overdose or a snake bite, you die from how your body reacts. This unfortunate kid seems to have died from how his body reacted to the capsaicin.

I feel sorry for his family.
No age restrictions on them yet in my state (Michigan). Still plenty of displays at gas stations, grocers…

I’m still kind of surprised they just sold these in grocery stores. I’m at least aware of it and know my limits but its easy to imagine a lot of kids think they could handle it

I think his heart and body wasn’t conditioned enough for the chip yet, he might of eaten it without a spice tolerance and his heart didn’t know how to react to the capsaicin so it stopped

He must have had an underlying heart condition that he didn’t know about. I work at a middle school, and we have had a lotttttt of students do this at school and none of them have had a medical emergency. These are 12-14 year old kids. No normal healthy person is going to go into cardiac arrest from this chip. They would have to have some sort of underlying health condition. But we’ll find out in a few weeks.

When did they move away from tortilla start making a potato chip version?

Need to know cause of death, don’t think it’s possible to die directly from capsaicin

Maybe I’m in the minority here because this is r/spicy but heat challenges are fucking stupid and most of the time the food in question taste like shit.

You know what Ivan Drago used to say…
He’s British cayenne probably would have fucked him up let alone “the worlds hottest chip”
Either climate change or Covid.
this whole comment section is a train wreck
[Seems to have been the chip](https://amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/sep/05/massachusetts-teen-dies-spicy-tortilla-chip-pacqui), though.
