So How To Cook That is one of my favorite Youtube channels. She posted this video yesterday about toxic foods and she has flax seeds in there. I put ground flax seeds in so many baked goods.

There’s a stupid thing where people say seed oil is toxic. Scientists have debunked this many times over, but some “health” people still spout that nonsense. That YouTubers list of toxic things might be unreliable, I didn’t watch it fyi I’ve just seen the seed oil bs many places.
She does clarify that you’d need to eat a large amount in one day for it to be concerning – the amount that you need for an egg replacement seems negligible, especially because it gets split up anyway. If you feel more comfortable avoiding it, that’s probably fine.
However – the fact it could be toxic to children is pretty scary and it feels like something that should have more awareness.
I used to make crackers that were literally just water, salt and flax seeds. I would eat them every single day with every meal, as would almost everyone else in the house. Why are we not dead?
First of all, if you’re baking it in a batter, or boiling it, you’re removing the cyanide.
Second, you’d have to eat a full cup of raw flax meal to get an unhealthy dose. If you’re measuring your flax in spoons instead of cups, nothing to worry about from the cyanide, and lots to benefit from.
It’s best to vary your seed and nut consumption to be completely safe. There are oxalates in chia and juglone in walnuts, etc. Too much of a single seed can possibly be problematic. But the health benefits typically outweigh the concerns.
“seed oil” is code for ketobro dumbassery

Maybe don’t get your health info from YouTube and TikTok
I probably ingest more flaxseed meal than any other living human- I take nearly 1/4C a day to treat my PCOS symptoms. I’ve been doing it for a decade. I’m fine.
