Seem to be the same size, one does not look twice the volume of the other. What’s going on here?

What’s going on here is an excellent reason to switch to measuring by weight

Ones flat the other is round.

Volume of a sphere: V=4/3 πr^3. (For a hemisphere divide the total by 2).

    And for a cylinder: V=πr2h

I think it’s the shape of each scoop. The smaller one looks bigger at first glance. I would do a weight test to see if there is a measurable difference.

There’s probably several things going on.

First, it’s really difficult to eyeball the volume of a sphere, that whole two 10″ pizzas is about the same amount of pizza as one 14″ pizza for math reasons. Now add another dimension and see how good you are at guessing the volume difference.

You also have two different manufacturers using different shapes.

Use real mesures. Not Stones, no feet, no cup.
Just mg and ml. And magic, no issue anymore with mesures that make no sense!

I believe the top one is a half “tablespoon”, and the bottom one is one “teaspoon”.

They clearly are different sizes, and fuck weighing out fractions of grams.

Isn’t one a table spoon and the other a teaspoon? TSP v tsp ?

  9. Ghost_Runner3000

Top one is 1/2 (0.5) TABLESPOON
    Bottom one is 1 TEASPOON

British teaspoon vs American teaspoon. I know they cheated on cups but didn’t know they went that far!

From a field using a unit system with confused measures like “liquid ounces” etc. I have zero expectation of consistency.

Honestly, it looks like a manufacturing error. What happens when you fill the 1 tsp with water and pour that into the 1/2 tsp? Let us know!!

Hell, if they weren’t labeled, looking at the size of the bowl I’d assume the 1/2 tsp is actually larger than the 1 tsp. Maybe it was supposed to be 1/2 TBSP and was incorrectly labeled.

Capital T is tablespoon; lower case t is teaspoon.

My dumbass thinking OP is talking about the patina on one of them. Everyone else: they’re different.

  19. From my understanding, the capital T means Tablespoon and lowercase means teaspoon, and 3 teaspoons make 1 Tablespoon, so if the 1/2T silver spoon is slightly larger it would be half of a Tablespoon/1.5 teaspoons, but thats just a guess!

  20. It’s written right there, 2.5ml for the 1/2 tsp and 5ml for the 1 tsp.

Buy the $15 scale that goes to .01 gram. You’ll never need to worry about spoons again.

  22. BeraldTheGreat

1/2 tablespoon is 50% of a tablespoon; 1 teaspoon is 33.3% of a tablespoon. It looks bigger because it’s ~150% bigger than the other.

  23. FragrantStandard5751

Damn inflation even hitting our measurements now. Lol.

Whats going on is there is an astonishing lack of regulation in kitchen wares manufacturing

  25. Use a digital scale in metric. Easy to use, accurate as I can be.
