Went to a Korean restaurant for lunch today. When the banchan arrived, I took a photo of the dishes to show my wife later. I didn’t look at the photo right away, since I was eager to dig in.

After lunch, I pulled up the pic and was baffled to see a sunny-side up egg in the photo: I never saw this egg served to me, and I didn’t see anyone take it away. Yet somehow, in the few seconds it took to take this photo, a fried egg apparently appeared and disappeared right in front of me.

It’s so bizarrely confusing to me! I’m seriously about to go back to the restaurant tomorrow and show the photo to the owner and see if he has any idea what happened.😅

At any rate, I actually do have a practical question as well! Can anyone tell me what the banchan is in the top right dish next to the japchae? It had a neutral-tasting jelly-like texture; I’m guessing it may have been konjac.

Did you or your wife order bibimbap? The fried egg usually gets added on top and you can mix it in.

The jelly-like dish is nokdu-muk (녹두묵), made from mung bean starch.

Is that not the picture on the placemat? The shadow is soft compared to the other dishes with hard shadows. Also it looked like a picture the minute I saw the photo.
