I was just gifted this traeger. Story is that it caught fire then rusted. Old owner didn’t want to clean it so now I have it.

The outside seems simple enough. Strip off the rust, repaint with high temp paint.

For the inside Ive read that I should strip the rust then season it with oil. Is seasoning it enough to keep bare metal from rusting? It seems weird that I will have patches of bare metal inside the smoker.

Am I on the right track? This is my first smoker so forgive me if this is super basic shit.
