I’m still pretty new at this but tonight was my first major misstep when attempting a recipe. I started with this recipe:
https://www.themagicalslowcooker.com/wprm_print/40165

I cooked the ingredients on low for 4 hours, then modified it by adding boneless, skinless chicken breast for an additional 4 hours. I was expecting chicken in a zucchini sauce but instead got chicken and zucchini soup!

Did the chicken itself add liquid? It was not frozen. I don’t know how I ended up with soup. Thanks for advance for your knowledge!

Did you mash the zucchini after it cooked for 4 hours?

It could be the sodium solution in the chicken but honestly, zucchini is super watery to begin with. I just googled some pictures and they all look watery as well.

My suggestion would be to taste for seasoning then add cornstarch then cook on high for like 20-30 minutes to thicken it up or just drain and reduce on the stove (or drain and thicken on the stove). Next time, I’d probably sweat the zucchini in a colander first to drain some of the water initially.

By adding the chicken, you cooked the crock pot temp and the consistency of the dish. Going forward I’d cook the chicken separately and add it to the dish after the fact.

I think you added more than a cup and a half of water

The sauce should have thickened up after resting, if it was still soupy just cook it longer. IMO it’s best to add all ingredients at once with a slow cooker. As long as you are using fresh/raw ingredients. Canned and frozen stuff can throw a wrench in that though.
