Was going to make some slow cooker split pea. These ham shanks are vacuumed sealed and kept refrigerated, but are about 2 months passed their “best buy” date. Thanks!

unless you are getting them out of a freezer right now, i wouldn’t. bad meat can be really bad.
also, i think it is a bit off topic for the sub.

If they were frozen, probably. If they were just refrigerated, I’d probably toss them and eat the $5

It’s ham. It’s been preserved and smoked. It’s fine.

If they smell ok and aren’t slimy you’ll be fine. Spoiled food is usually pretty obvious.

You want to risk diarrhea for $5

I would never buy a product with Tyson in the name, but that is only because I live close to a Tyson “factory.” They are some gross Mother Fuckers.

I think you will know just by opening the package. It’s a cured product.
But it’s only $5 so there’s that

I remember my uncle thought expired meat was still good. He kept preaching it up and down. Kept telling me I didn’t know what I’m talking about. 3hrs later, the meat was looking like paste, sticky, slimey, brown and had a horrid disgusting smell to it. Point is, even if you kept it frozen for months. The meat will spoil in minutes once it hits the heat and cool down.

“best by or freeze by”
As long as it was frozen before that date, and didn’t spoil before you froze it, it will be fine for months to come.
I buy meat in bulk and write the date I freeze on it. I eat months old, close to a year depending on what it is.
The quality of the meat will deteriorate over time while frozen, but as long as it stays frozen and is properly sealed it will be fine to eat, just might not be the best quality.
This has likely only been frozen two months, so it is likely just as good of quality as when you froze it.

Vacuum sealed gives you months after “Sell By” but I’d only trust it frozen. Pork is nasty shit with loads of worms. Don’t do it.

If the package is seal probably, and the product had been frozen then yes, you can still use them. But if the package is not till seal then I will toss them.even it was frozen
