Made a return visit to Garbo’s for the blackend version of their Tuesday special $14 fish and chips. The blackened filet is excellent! Spicy, buttery and (added) lemony in all the right ways. I thought it might be a smaller filet than the fried version but the bartender said it’s the same piece, just doesn’t balloon to the giant size without all the batter. I’d never go back to the fried fish after this.

I miss the F&C at black Star coop. I think that place is done. But they had the best fish and chips in austin imo.
Their fries were excellent. The avocado club (add bacon) was to die for.
I tried their fish and chips and was disappointed by the texture of the fry. Everything else was delicious… aioli, fries, flavor of the fish, everything. But the soft texture of the fry was disappointing. I guess I need to go back and try this blackened version.

Blackened fish and chips ? That’s kinda like broiled fried chicken, or sautéed barbecue. It might be very tasty but it ain’t F&C.
Yea, the Tuesday special that they won’t fix to go. I stopped going there for it when they started that.

Although it does look pretty tasty it ain’t fish and chips lol but do ya thang. Black Star did have decent fish and “chips”. Those fries were real nice👌. I really struggle to find a decent fish and chips here. Especially for the prices you pay. Nobody even bothers doing proper chips either. Will break down and go to Garbo’s, BD Riley’s(for imperial pints as well), or like Salt Trader’s to get a fix. I will say Foxy’s Proper Pub and The Pub downtown are absolute garbage fish and chips. At least they were the one time each I went to try them during prime time dinner on a weekend 🙃. Nosh and Bevvy on Burnet was actually pretty decent though. Staff was very nice. Would love to hear any other suggestions for solid F+C if ya gottem! Sorry I ranted about fish and chips. I’m obsessed.
