Hi everyone, new to slow cooking. Just got myself a Russell Hobbs 24180, loving the amazing stews I’m able to make with little effort. However I just wanted to ask if it is normal that it does not boil all the way round, only on the back and sides, and whether this will affect the end result. I’m wondering if I have a defective unit with a broken heating element at the front or if this is typical behaviour. The video is on the low setting after about 12 hours already, so it has reached full operating temperature.

I wouldn’t personally worry about it, as it’s likely just how the food is arranged in the slow cooker. However you can try sticking a temperature probe into your dish in a few places to verify you’re getting an even cook.

  2. If you took this video at the beginning of the boil then it should be fine as the food takes time to come to a boil as a whole. You can see a few bubbles by the last second in the video. However, if this clip is near the end of the cook time then there could be a problem. One way to check it if your element is working fine is to turn the cooker on and check the heat on the base of the bowl with the bowl being empty. Otherwise if the food is cooked at the end of the cooking time then the cooker is working ok.
