    I’m not sure I would feel comfortable trusting my hard work to lids of unknown origins after the fiascos of knock-off lids failing during the pandemic.

    I put too much work into my products to use cheap lids.

    I wouldn’t use them. Anytime I’ve used anything besides Kerr or Ball I’ve had lid failure. Too much work to risk. I’ve just been buying my years-worth of supplies ahead of time instead of waiting til the last minute.

    The only time I use these lids is when I am making refrigerator pickles. Other than that, I don’t trust that they will seal properly.

    Money saving tip: reuse your rings. Buy new lids from trusted source such as Ball. $0.50 a piece at Target (in a box of 12), or $0.75 each for lids and rings (in a box of 12)

    Label on the Dollar Tree bag says 10 pieces; bet that’s 5 rings and 5 lids. If they’re asking more than $3.75 it’s a ripoff price for potentially inferior product.

    For my Canadian friends, Dollarama usually has Bernardin lids for $3. They’re $5 at Canadian Tire.

    I can attest that you will have a higher failure rate if you buy these. During covid we bought some cheap lids because that’s all we could find in our rural community. Most did seal but we had a noticeably higher failure rate

    There’s no way I’d trust those. First, I spend way too much time and effort on my canning to ever risk spoilage with knock-off lids. Second, there are approximately eleventy-bazillion ideas on Pinterest for using canning lids for non-canning crafts, and I’d bet anything that these are designed for those projects.

    I’ve not had good luck with off brand lids. I usually only use them for refrigerator stuff.

    I’ve used nothing but lids from ForJars off of amazon for three years with only a couple failures—just ordered my third box of 100.

    First rule of canning: never buy off-brand lids and seals. Source: someone who has bought off-brand seals and has lost her unsealed pickles.
