We can’t be there until 11:30AM
I’m coming from Gatesville, and I have family in town from out of state for a wedding and I have been bragging about how BBQ is billion times better than anything back in California. My favorite is Franklin’s but I can’t be there at 6AM to wait, Terry Blacks is okay, I’d rather try something else, Snows is closed Sunday, and Goldie’s is too far. I never been to Leroy and Lewis, La Barbecue, Micklethwait Craft Meats, or Distant Relatives. Who’s my best shot at showing up late, not running out of food and being able to sit with kids and dogs outside? Open to any suggestions, thank you in advance.

Leroy and Lewis.
I really love Distant Relatives at Meanwhile brewing . You might have to sit outside but I don’t think they’ll sell out before lunch. I also recently went to the truck at Oddwood brewery and that was amazing too. Good luck!
Mickelthwait. Short Line, lots of tables outside, shade. Leroy and Lewis will be a shitshow of a line.
Get out of Travis County and away from pretentious Austin hipstercue.
Burnt Bean in Seguin, City Market in Luling, Smitty’s in Lockhart, Rabel’s Roadhouse in New Berlin.
You can show up a little late at Franklin but it is a dice roll as you said.
Micklethwalt has what you want but I say sells out around 4:30 and does have a small wait.
With a large enough order you can preorder franklins. That depends on your timeline though. Pretty sure you can sit there and eat but I could be wrong. Or find a park nearby and enjoy it there.
Moreno BBQ in South Austin is very good with outdoor seating and little wait.
Browns. Bonus points I’d the Thai place next door is open. Get their killer noodles.
LA BBQ is probably only a 45 minute wait by that time.
Rolling Smoke at the Arbor food trailer Court on E 12th is great. They have a smoked Mac and cheese and a home made pimento cheese side. Yes, I like lots of cheese with my Bbq! The lines are pretty reasonable and the owners are very friendly and accommodating. There’s also a great Thai truck, Mexican st Tacos and a truck with amazing lemonade. .
Leroy and Lewis at Cosmic is all things you mentioned, unless they sell out, but that’s 11am or afternoon.
Dogs, kids running around, outside seating. Full espresso bar and liquor bar and oftentimes music.
The beef cheek is amazing
Micklethwait
Rolling smoke is the only solid bbq truck i know of that will definitely not have a wait
Definitely vote for KG bbq the Egyptian/tx bbq truck! Indoor &outdoor seating available w brewery. The brisket rice bowl is perfection!
Was at micklethwaite today around 11:30 with a similar sized group(kids&dogs included). Only had 2 groups in line ordering in front of us and food was ready fast- digging in by 11:45. They have lots of tables with shade/fans and imo food is just as good if not better than franklin’s.
