I recently shared with you how I make my homemade Italian seasoning blend and asked if you would like to see how I make my homemade Italian dressing. The response was overwhelming and today I will share this very simple kitchen basic with you!
Homemade dressing is so simple and so much more delicious than many that you can purchase at the store. It goes together in a flash and tastes amazing! You probably have all the things you need to make a basic dressing on hand anyway, so why not just make it from scratch?
My dressing starts with some light olive oil and balsamic vinegar. You can choose to use red or white wine vinegar if you like, but I don’t recommend apple cider or plain vinegar in this recipe because they are just far too acrid. You can even try a lovely white balsamic if you don’t like the richer flavors of the original dark version.
I added some of my homemade Italian seasoning blend along with salt, sugar and some lemon crystals, but you can always squeeze a couple tablespoons of fresh lemon juice in if you like, a squeeze of Dijon mustard to help the emulsification process and I also like to add a couple of tablespoons of water just to even everything out.
Put it all in a mason jar or a repurposed jar with a tight fitting lid and shake, shake, shake! I like to allow this to sit for at least an hour before using so the herbs get a chance to bloom and soften. I also recommend using this within a week. You should only make what you think you will use in a short time. It is so easy to make, it pays to make it fresh.
This can also be adjusted to create lots of other types of vinaigrette dressings to suit your personal taste or the type of salad or vegetables you are dressing.
I hope you give this homemade Italian dressing a try and I hope you love it!
Happy Eating!

more homeade dressing videos please
i will use this to marinate chicken. thanks Noreen
Yes. This is the way to go for salad dressing. I get my Balsamic Vinegar from Gourmet Living.com, the people I learned of from you, Noreen – and it's worth every penny plus they are the nicest people. Exactly the kind of people I like to buy from.
That would make a lovely marinade as well 👍🏻
Very nice! I've been sick and recovering from pneumonia for the past three months and have had to use bottled dressing. Because I usually make our salad dressings for us, I cannot find a dressing on the market that tastes decent. Ah, well! I'll be cooking again in around a month. Dang! I miss my special salad recipe too!
Could you do a video on greek dressing from your seasoning blend?
Looks delish.
I'm just curious if you are going to do any segments on gardening soon? I'm trying my hand at container gardening this year and wondered if you had ever done that and if so any tips or advice. I'd like to do mostly vegetables, I can't have a traditional garden, but love to try and grow what I can. Thanks!
Noreen thank you so much for sharing this- I love Italian dressing and always prefer making my own of everything and this recipe looks delicious.
Great looking dressing! I make my own these days too…less additives and you can control the ingredient amounts 🙂
Going to try your recipe this week
why didn't you add everything to the oil so you would have one less jar to clean?
I don't think I can find true lemon where I live, how much lemon juice could I substitute ?
Where did you find the powered lemon? Love you video's.
very good
Looks fantastic. I'll be making some this week. Thank you.
Thanks for being who you are you inspire me.
This recipe works really well for chicken breasts on the grill. I got lots of compliments, Thanks for sharing.
