I got sick once eating Beef stroganoff so I don’t want to make that lol. Can I use these in place of spaghetti? I have some jars of sauce as well. Otherwise my budget is like $15-$20 a bag maybe?

Yes, you can make anything you want with noodles……spaghetti, goulash, soups, etc. Egg noodles are used most in soups and casseroles, from my experience

We grew up VERY poor. My grandma would boil a pot of these noodles, drain, and then mix in a can of cream of chicken soup. It sounds disgusting, I know, but I still want it once in awhile and will make it.

Those noodles are also good as dumplins in chicken and dumplins. Buy a whole chicken. They’re cheaper oddly.

Tuna casserole is great. Tuna, cream of celery, tuna, bread crumbs…yum

Slice and brown a chicken breast in butter and garlic. Add cooked noodles, dry parsley, salt , pepper and some Parmesan. Quick easy and our son loved it growing up.

A struggle meal we grew up eating was one can of chicken breast, drained, 2 small cans of cream of chicken soup, a bag of frozen peas and carrots, some milk to thin out the soup, and a bag of cooked egg noodles. I make it a couple of times a year (with 2 12oz cans of chicken now!) just for the nostalgia!

    Poor man’s stroganoff
Use browned ground beef, an onion, garlic, cream of mushroom soup or sour cream and cooked noodles s&p and whatever spices you have available

You could make a ground beef and/or mushroom stroganoff (depending on cost and whatever you have on hand) and toss the egg noodles in it. They also go fine in soups, especially chicken.

Budget Stroganoff is basically some variation on:

Brown ground beef and /or sautée mushrooms, set aside. Then, cook butter or oil mixed with a little flour to make a roux, dash of nutmeg, onion, garlic, onion powder, garlic powder, a bay leaf if you have it, paprika, milk (with splash of cream if possible) to make a cheap but creamy gravy. Add mushrooms and/or meat back into pan. Add some sour cream to finish if you happen to have it. Use diff herbs and spices if you like- some people season with sage, especially if they’re using mushrooms. It’s also good if you can add a splash of sherry to the sauce, but that’s optional. Fold in the cooked egg noodles. It makes a lot of food for not much money. Roux based dishes are usually pretty cheap.

    I’m using them for tonight’s supper! 🙂

I am making chicken noodles and they are the business.

    3 ribs celery diced

    2 large carrots diced

    I small onion diced

I use sous-vide to cook a couple chicken breasts seasoned with celery salt, pepper, roasemary and thyme, but you could easily roast or pan cook the chicken. When its cooled I shread or dice it.

I start with a few tablespoons of olive oil in a soup pan.

I gently cook the veg to soften it for 10 minutes or so. Just softening, not trying to get any color.

Then I add an equal amount of flour(to the oil) over the veg and cook a couple minutes to take the raw flavor off the flour.

I then add 3 tsp 6 of better than bullion chicken paste mixed into 6 cups of water. This product calls for 1 tsp per cup, but I use about half as much because its pretty strong and salty.

I slowly add the stock to the veg and flour and mix to prevent lumps.

Once all the stock is in a further cook the veg until they are the tenderness I want. Maybe another 15-20 minutes.

Add those noodles and the diced chicken and cook to the package directions.

Trust me, this simple recipe is easy to make and produces some great chicken noodles! I serve it with a bun.

Homemade hamburger helper. Chicken and noodles. Stroganoff.

My mom used to make chicken and noodles with this. Stew the whole chicken until is falling off bones then add noodles and more water if necessary.Cook until tender.

Brown some ground meat if you got it, add a jar of cheap salsa, add a jar of cheap spaghetti sauce, then add about half of that bag of noodles, cooked and drained. Some shredded cheese on top would be good too.

There are a few things to do with noodles like these.

If you’re looking for something traditional you could look into making chicken noodle soup or beef stroganoff. There are plenty of short cuts to make them more affordable as well, such as using a cream of mushroom as a base for a sauce with left over roast beef shredded up.

They are also decent for being used like a more traditional pasta with Tomato or Dairy based sauces. I personally like to use butter, Romano cheese, and just a bit of starchy water with plenty of (preferably freshly cracked) black peppercorn. They also aren’t terrible for Mac n’ Cheese; just be sure to not over cook the noodles or a heavy cheese sauce can risk the noodle integrity if overcooked. (To prevent overlooking cook al dente instructions and shock with cold water right after draining.)
