Ingredients
1 cup (1/2 pound) dry chick peas (not canned)
1/2 onion, roughly chopped
1 bunch fresh parsley
4 cloves garlic
1 rounded tablespoon flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
vegetable oil for frying
tzaztiki, tahini, or shawarma sauce for dipping
Instructions
Soak the chickpeas covered with cold water overnight in a large bowl. They will double in size so make sure there’s plenty of water.
Drain the soaked chickpeas well.
Place the garlic cloves in a food processor and pulse until finely chopped.
Add parsley leaves and thin stems and chop with garlic.
Now add the chickpeas, onions, salt peppers, flour, baking soda and coriander. Pulse until everything comes together and is finely chopped. It should hold together. You may add a bit more flour if you need to so that it holds.
Transfer the mixture in a bowl and cover tightly with wrap. Refrigerate at least 1-2 hours or overnight.
Heat the oil to about 370 Β°F.
Form the falafel balls using a small ice cream scoop. You can also make patties if you prefer (like mini burgers).
Fry about 5-6 at a time so that they cook evenly and the oil’s temperature does not drop too much.
Fry for about 4-5 minutes or until beautifully golden brown all around.
Place cooked falafel on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
Serve these with tzatziki, pita bread and chopped salad (cucumber, bell pepper, onion).
Enjoy!!

Hi Dimitra can I use chickpea flour as an alternative to the plain flour?π
Lovely recipe, can I use fresh coriander instead of parsley.
Wonderful! Thank you for making it so easy.
good video thanks for sharing..
Mashallah yummy looks! πππ
Excellent recipe but you missed the tahini sauce that my Lebanese friends taught me. I discovered the wonders of Middle Eastern food when I went to Beirut (Lebanon)about nine years ago for my Erasmus year. Their food, flavors and the way they use herbs and spices are equal to none. They make our European food look bland and boring and thatβs including the overrated French, Italian, Greek and Spanish food which ironically have taken so many recipes from the Arab world ( pasta, pizza, focaccia, gazpacho, kafta, gyros.. there was an interesting expo in Genoa -CittΓ e Mari about this topic).
What type of turkeys put yougurt with Falafel. It goes with techina not yougurt!
I am loving your channel. For several years on my birthday I celebrate with Greek food usually in a restaurant. You have encouraged me to cook more Greek because I love it so much. Your quirky videos make me happy and are so down to earth. I especially love the salads you make. Thank you for being you.
This IS the best falafel recipe. I made these for dinner tonight and its just like my favourite takeout place, if not better. Thank you for your wonderful recipes.
Can you make some for me please. they look so good, but too much work for me.
Cusinart suggests with processor running, drop onion and garlic through feed tube to mince. Always works!
I use falafel for vegsballs for spaghetti ir the falafel prepared for veganesa (vegan bolognesa)
Falafel Is the joker in kitchen.
I even use for mexican plates.
If u put cilantro and chipotle or habanero instead the peper flakes.
Or with a heart of cheeeeessseeee
Am in love
I love falafel, but my recipe adds cilantro and dill, and I prefer tzatziki sauce (grated cucumber, garlic, lemon juice, Greek yogurt, salt) on the falafel in the pita. But really, any way you make falafel is delectable. I just like mine herbier. Even some sumac in addition to the cumin.
Oh I wish I could have that dish of falafel right now!
Thank you for this recipe. I love falafels and Iβve even gotten my friends to like them. They are served at a local restaurant in our small town in Montana. Now I can make my own with all the trimmings π»
Excellent, arete' ! π thanks.
Love the Jordanian music, if anyone is familiar with this song please share, thank you!β€
