Watch This Before You Make Compost to See What Can be Used to Turned into Garden Soil Container

  1. I can’t help but wonder what seeps out of those plastic containers into your food. We know we’re dealing with sneaky snakes. Plastic is not good.

  2. Hi Robbie, I love your channel. I've learned so much. I have raised beds and so far everything has been doing very well. But I am also not in California where there is drout, we get quite a bit of water, and decent amount of sun. I make sure the soil is very rich. I will add my homemade compost, I will bury food scraps and meat carcasses, fish carcasses from dinners we've had. Last year was my first year using the raised beds, and my harvest was very good. But I understand what you are saying. When plants and trees are competing for water and against root systems, they have no chance. I'm not in that dilemma yet. But I will be attentive for that in the future. Buckets make sense to me. You're a very smart cookie. Where I am, not sure with our cold winters if plants will survive in buckets, but I will try it out. 🙂 P.S: You are right when you talk about sprouting seeds in foodscraps. The nicest plants I've seen were from seeds that sprouted in foodscraps. I see it happen all the time in my compost pile.

  3. Haha I get my groceries from Walmart too but…
    THEY SHOULD LOVE YOU NOW😂

  4. Hello Robbie, your video on how to grow in totes was very helpful, thank you for your honesty about how you actually get your tote garden success.

  5. Hi Robbie! Love your videos- started with your hummingbird fountains which I LOVE, and your gardening vids are catching my attention now. You've never mentioned growing carrots and potatoes.. do you grow those somewhere? If not, why? Thanks!

  6. I saw a random video earlier today
( 6-11-2023 ) of a lady who said “you can plant in compost as long as it’s fully finished compost”. I was thinking 🤔 Hummm that’s not true

  7. I finally bought two totes and two pitchers ! I can’t wait to start gardening in my back patio . It will be my first time trying the composting in place . Do I fill the pitcher weekly ?

  8. Thank you Robbie ! I needed to hear that! I had so many failures in the garden listening to those popular gardeners. I was surprised also when they said it doesn't matter which one you use.
I noticed that many of them sell their products. I know they can't be not biased. One is even selling something with his secret ingredient! I want to know all the ingredients when I pay. I love gardening. Like you, I have trees around with long roots, I have to use containers. I still fail, because I want to grow everything. It's getting overwhelming, especially working fulltime. Do you have any advice for people that work , how to organize to have time for gardening better? I think people need more videos like this one. Thank you again!❤🌻

  9. I'm somewhat new to this channel. I love your videos. I have been binge watching for a week or so now. I'm currently waiting on my second solar pump to arrive, the first one came broken. I am successfully growing in an old refrigerator for a few years now. I also have a 12 by 25 feet garden in the ground that usually looks like a jungle by August, due to my lack of staying on top of weeding here in Ohio. I'm now going to try your container and layering method. I'm looking forward to more of your videos. I have been gardening for 20 years with many successes and failures. But I am gaining so much more valuable information from you and your channel. Thank you.

  10. Hello, & thank you. We're having a very hard time growing things this year. We're up in Central California Kern county. 😊💐🦋

  11. I'm sick of listening to gardeners..im sick of buying Pete moss, coco choir, vermiculite, I heard vermiculite is a carcinogenic, I stopped using Pete moss because I got mold & fungal gnats inside, and frankly coco choir does the same thing. I've tried sand, but you need to transplant. Someone recommended forest bark, but I can't get that here. I've tried hydroponics for lettuce with rock wool, inside south window and they all died. I rain harvested too and can make my own liquid fertilizer. I used a soil amend and it killed my soil. Nothing came up. I'm growing containers near the north side of the house and their doing well.
. I just want to go back to the olden ways. How did the pioneer woman grow things inside and out? Laura Ingalls spoke of growing geraniums In a metal can. She lived in the Ozarks. My soil is alkaline clay. Doing the best I can, praise the Father. 😊🙏

  12. I was disappointed when none of my beets grew. The best harvest I've ever had was by using kitchen scraps ( fresh or composted)

  13. THANK YOU FOR ALWAYS KEEPING IT REAL!! LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!! From OHIO & PUERTO RICO!! 🇵🇷

    🇺🇸

  14. Rosemary, oregano, lavender, sage and many others are all in the mint family. I love mint.

Prunella vulgaris aka heal-all and many names is one of the mints. There are over 200 plants in the mint family.

The totes I have are all freebies from various places, so they are different sizes.

  15. You got me into planting in bins. It's great but people need to fertilize and feed the soil for plants to be bigger and fatter. I started using produce scraps and fish fertilizer. I used the tulle to cover my plants. I fed my family a lot of organic veggies thanks to you. It's really trial and error at start. I did put the shredded paper with woods and dirt and I planted on it right away but the branches and paper needed to be turned and it wasn't draining so you do have to wait a while before you can plant in it if you add wood or shredded paper. Don't plant in it right away! You HAVE and DID mention not to plant in into right away. I had to dig out the first 5 bins out for my mistake. Now I just put all dirt now because I rush and don't have patience to turn it and wait, costs more money because dirt is expensive but I'm thankful because you inspired me to start and learn through trial and error. I saw your's is successful so I knew it can be done. Some plants don't like too much sun, shade makes a big difference and I learned about companionship with plants. You see her plants are against the wall, that wall provides shade. 80% of my successful gardening in bins, the location and shade and where you put it makes a big difference. Before I put on direct sunlight on top of cement, all wouldn't grow. I relocated to shade near other plants and they grow like insane.

  16. Thank you Robbie! What about plants grown in non food grade hydroponics systems like plastic buckets? Aren't the chemicals leeching into water and the plants are able to take up from the water?
