http://www.baldchef.com/recipe-on-how-to-cook-manhattan-clam-chowder/Manhattan clam chowder is a tomato based soup with Portuguese roots. Back in the late 1800’s Manhattan clam chowder was called New York clam chowder. I like Manhattan clam chowder because it is healthier than New England clam chowder and I enjoy the spicy broth. I like this recipe and I will show you how to make this soup step by step.

  1. Well thank you , I think the same way you do the Manhattan Clam Chowder is much more tasty and healthier than let say the other chowder!

  2. Yeah, red chowder's the best. However, I've found that a little bacon to saute the vegetables gives it extraordinary flavor.

  3. Bacon would kick this Manhattan Clam Chowder recipe up to the next level. Next time I want to try cooking my recipe by cooking the vegetables for this " extraordinary flavor" good idea! Thanks for the incite and comment!

  4. Thanks for viewing my Manhattan clam chowder recipe. It is a great recipe and i love to cook a pot of this soup now and again!

  5. Jackie I love this Manhattan Clam Chowder recipe it is one of my all time favorite soup recipes. I am glad you enjoyed it, thanks for the kind words!

  6. I agree completely that Manhattan style is WAY better. I love the tomato taste, the creamy New England style is just… eh. Its good but bland in comparison to Manhattan style. I make massive portions of it and people go crazy over it 🙂

  7. Shawn true that! The best way to go is Manhattan style Clam Chowder. Though I have tried a few different recipes I like this recipe the most. I understand way people go crazy for your rendition of this great soup. Thanks for the comment, Cheers.

  8. Too true! I use a recipe I found in a really old Betty Crocker cookbook. Basically calls for minced clams, diced tomatoes, potatoes, thyme, parsley, a few other little things. Its really to die for and the pot goes QUICK. New England style is basically all you hear of and see in cans in grocery stores and in restaurants, Manhattan style definitely needs more recognition. Always surprising to me that all you really see is New England style wherever you go.

  9. I love Clam chowder. But this recipe for Manhattan clam chowder is much better than the cream version. The main reason is it has more flavor and is healthier. I love all kind of soup but Manhattan Clam Chowder is tops. This is an easy soup to cook and I share your views on which is better. Your right you hardly see Manhattan Clam Chowder served in restaurants. Thanks for your comment and enjoy. Cheers!

  11. Glen, Thanks for the healthier version.  I wondered too about filtering the water. I thought maybe a coffee filter or cheese cloth. This looks wonderful!  Great job.

  12. I'm with you, Manhattan over New England, hands down!  Thanks for the recipe btw, will have to give that one a try.

  13. New England Clam Chowder was meant for fishermen who needed the calories and to keep warm while fishing. i have never liked the Manhattan style chowder and never will. and i don't understand why your tsp of celery seed is red when you ad it.

  14. OMGGG THAT LOOKS SO FFFF DELICIOUSSS!! IBCAN EVEN SMELL IT 😛
great revenue I'm going to do it thanks for the recepie!

  15. My Favorite Soup. I have my own recipe but I am going to try this for sure. I do not have access to fresh clams that I trust to eat here in Indiana so I use bottled juice and canned clams.

  16. Very nice but next time saute onions and carrots with the seasoning little olive oil then add water clams and veggies more flavor =better. What portuguese influence does this have nothing 😆
