I liked it, but in the end, it’s a pot pie. For a pot pie, I thought it was relatively easy and good, although I cooked it less than the minimum time and you can see my biscuits are on the dark side.
I used the whole onion rather than half, added a bunch of green beans from my fridge, a few diced chilies, and doubled the amount of cream cheese to finish up an open packet. (Now I have a convenient single serve cream cheese in my fridge!) With the extra vegetables, it’s more like 2.5 servings.
I wanted to repeat the pricing exercise from the thread of “Is Hello Fresh cheaper?” and again this meal seems to actually be so for two people if you had to buy all the ingredients, although not for four. Once again, I checked online prices at my local King Soopers.
93% lean Jennie-O ground turkey, 16 oz $6, on sale for $4 this week.
Pillsbury Southern Homestyle biscuits, 16.3 oz, $3.80
Philadelphia cream cheese, 8 oz, $3.50
Fresh Thyme, 0.5 oz, $2.50
1 onion $1.30
2 carrots, $0.30
2 celery, $0.50
Garlic, 1 head, $0.50
Gold Medal AP flour, 2lbs, $3.30
Better Than Bouillon, 8 oz, $6
$27.70 for two (25.70 this week)
However, there is (much) more than 2x biscuits, cream cheese, and thyme than needed. The only ingredients that need to be doubled are the turkey, celery, and carrots, which means:
$34.50 for four (30.50 this week)
And honestly, if you are cooking a lot, you likely already have garlic, flour, and chicken base which takes close to $10 off the total.

I made this tonight. Although it was good, I couldn’t help but think it would have been even better with shredded rotisserie chicken or some left over turkey meat from Thanksgiving.
