Is it strange that this subreddit is dedicated to a particular flavor, but people here take more pride if they are less able to taste that flavor? In other words, people take pride in needing more spice to taste the heat … but no one is proud about being able to taste small amounts of heat

I’m not particularly “proud” of being able to withstand more heat. I don’t care to show off, I just enjoy spicy food. I have a tolerance but up from years of eating it, and I enjoy the feel of the burn on my lips, tongue, mouth, but I want it to taste good too. Heat for heat’s sake is pretty silly. I mean, cleaning fluid would burn your mouth too, but it would taste terrible. I want a delicious balance of flavor and spicy heat.

I don’t think u taste spice, u feel it, a mild hot sauce can taste good but so can an extreme one, I grew up with an Indonesian dad so we always ate super spicy, when I first tasted Carolina reaper sauces and other extreme ones I was let down because I thought it would be a big step up from what I’m used to. I would love to be able to feel something extremely spicy but I think my taste buds are destroyed lol.
