My mom’s back with one of her favorite Greek recipes, snapakopita, or Greek spinach pie. You need Four frozen chopped spinach packages, extra virgin olive oil, 1 lb crumbled feta cheese, 4 bunches chopped green onions, pepper, dill, 4 eggs, filo dough #4, and 1 cup kefalograviera cheese. Follow along, coat each layer of filo dough with olive oil, and bake at 350 degrees for one hour.

  1. Could not find the written instructions and list and measurements of ingredients

  2. What a fun video I watched. I don't think I have laughed so much watching a food video that I enjoyed and that I am going to make in the next one hour for a welcome to our street new neighbors. I am sure it will be delicious and even though I will tweak it a little bit, Angelo and Mama z thank you so much. I felt at home just like my sons and myself and I can't wait to show your video to my friends and family. My grandchildren will surely enjoy and hopefully eat your spanakopita which we call spinach bureg. God Bless you both 🙏❤🙌, you are both awesome, Mama Violet

Making the filo yourself from scratch is definitely much better but of course very time consuming and very messy but worth it at the end. And adding kefalograviera cheese is a bit too much cause it's very salty and feta in itself is salty enough of course that depends what feta your using theres very salty feta mild and low salt feta if your using a salty one you don't need kefalograviera if low salt then yes kefalo/iera is a must if you can't find that type of cheese get the itallian version wich comes close to kefalo/iera wich is parmesan and adding 2-3 leeks in the mix brings the pie up to a whole new level. And if you whant a little creaminess in the pie about a cup of galotyri if you can find that type in the states will give it a little creaminess to it. Galotyri is a mix of goat and sheeps milk extremly low on salt and almost like yogurt in texture and appearance. Spinach pie is the most traditional Greek dish you can eat and very simple to make, lay down your filo make the mix dump it in cover mix with the rest of the filo and put in the oven for about an hour give or take depends on the oven. Anyway your mom did a great job and the pie looks great they say food is as good as it looks and that there my friend is one delicious looking pie.

  4. Another "Greek invented" spanakopita..
It doesn't really matter dough but it get annoying at times.
Pies were introduced to Greeks by Ottomans, they make spinach pies long before Greeks.

  5. Lol she said what is it lol. And looked at him like don't u dare cause I am talking love love it so cute. She said if this not good I don't know what is. I know that's right 😅 love it bless her 💜

  6. I loved the video, and am going to make it very soon. I really appreciate she made It so easy to follow her instructions. I can't wait to try it. Thank you so much

  7. is there a video on moussaka? i don't have access to my mum anymore, long story. i would love if any1 has a proper Greek recipe for moussaka/ thank you.

  8. I came from Greece about 10 days ago, and now, I'm in love in spanakopita. Your mum is sooo sweet and passionate for cooking. A woman with big heart. ❤

  9. I’ve invented my own recipe just like your recipe except I always add some ricotta as well and I’ve always used butter. I love the way us Europeans use metal utensils on their pans 😂

  10. I make Pita all the time. Usually use cottage cheese and Feta. Picked up a great tip from your mom. Sprinkle water on top of the Phylo dough so it stays flat. Also, I have been using butter instead of olive oil. Think I will go with oil from now on. A more healthy version. Also, I noticed your mom eats the Pita with her hands. My 89 year old Greek mother-in-law eats hers that was as well. The older Greeks grew up eating it that way.i use a fork. Lol

  11. When she asked is this 2 inches you said I don’t know yet you criticize everything she says . I like her , very natural mother. Be nice to her

  12. Hey Angelo & Mama👋 I first heard of Spanakopita on the movie “My Big Fat. Greek Wedding 2” and I had to at least try! I believe I saw over 25+ tutorials on how to make it. But your mama’s video was my favorite! So I made it today Feb. 18th being her recipe so easy and watching her enjoy it so much that was the winner for me, and yes it was and is delicious!!! Please thank your mama and thank you for sharing your mama’s Spanakopita recipe. I still have a hard time saying the word but then again I’m 66 and I still love to create new recipes for my family. God bless, God is so Good! Amen!❤
