After some research, I discovered that the unopened bottle, while fairly rare, would probably bring no more than $100 at most, and since selling a bottle in VA is a legal headache, I said to hell with it, and decided to give it a try. I was absolutely NOT expecting the cork to come out in one piece, let alone smoothly. I am no sommelier, and have never really done tasting notes, so forgive my amateur attempt.

The color is really different from what I expected from a “rose”. It’s a very dark reddish amber. Almost like a sherried whisky. Smell is WEIRD. No vinegar notes or anything like spoilage, but it’s not like any wine I’ve ever smelled. Has a very intense leather aroma, but not in an unpleasant way. Very light and hard to place fruit aroma. Maybe cherries? Taste is subtle. Not bad, smooth, slightly sweet, slightly acidic. Bright cherry and grape notes, that fade to something very bourbon-like, maybe oak. Finish has some really mild tannins. Not something I would normally drink, as I prefer dark, bitter, tannic, angry reds, but overall, quite pleasant. Also, after showing the bottle to my parents, there’s a possibility that I was conceived while they were under the influence of this particular strain of disco-swill. I may never recover from this knowledge.

Thank you for taking one for the team.

With an additional nod (and a wink) to your folks.

In 1998 I worked at a resort hotel and we dared one of the other servers that he couldn’t chug one of them.

He did and instantly was glassy eyed and almost vomited. Kept it down and partied throughout the night.

Even if selling it wasn’t a hassle, nobody would buy it, lol. This is like finding a 30 year old Barefoot Pink Moscato.

    Thanks for the notes.

Good chance one of these bottles was involved in my conception as well.

Amazing. Do you think it was better with age?
