A classic Sicilian-American Italian-American pork sandwich

Muffuletta bread is a sesame-crusted, very wide, round, flat bread loaf
Subs – a good hearty sturdy bread like Focaccia, Ciabatta, wide round french baguette or Italian hoagie, semolina rolls, etc.

Pre-made bottled jarred Italian or New Orleans “olive salad mix” or Muffaletta / Muffuletta mix – Marconi, DeLallo, Mezzetta, Central Grocery’s, Giuliano, Aunt Sally’s, Granzellas, Boscoli, or other brand.

This mix is made of pickled olives, celery, cauliflower, carrot, garlic, olive oil, vinegar, peppers, spices.

Similar to Giardiniera, except Giardiniera has pickles/gherkins in it instead of olives.
I actually prefer olives much more; so, I even use Muffuletta mix
instead of Giardiniera for Chicago Italian sausage sammichez nowadays.

Three types of cold-cuts:

Coarse-ground & cured sausage – sopressata, sopressa, salami, pepperoni

Fine-ground / emulsified sausage – mortadella, bologna

Cured whole cuts – ham, capicola, coppa, prosciutto, speck

Cheese – provolone
Subs, white cheese – swiss, mozzarella, gouda, gruyere, comte

Wrap sammich in paper, plastic or foil and let rest for 1 hour before eating.
Resting sandwich allows bread to absorb olive juices and oils.

Bread-spread – olive oil and mix in a lil’ red wine vinegar or balsamic vinegar.
This helps expedite, or even replace, the resting/soaking process.
This also adds/amps extra zing/vinegary flavor & olive oil richness to the Muffuletta olive salad mix.

Zapp’s potato chips
Subs – any good potato chips; I love Jalapeño kettle chips.
