What’s your favorite condiment? Most people from the Balkan region would probably say: Ajvar. A savory condiment made from roasted peppers. We went to North Macedonia to learn the art of crafting this flavorful pepper sauce. But Ajvar is more than a sauce; it’s a symbol of Balkan tradition, adding a burst of taste to every dish. And every Balkan country claims to make the best.

  1. ayvar could be very good but you need to try romanian zacusca which i think is at another level😋😋😋

  2. Brazil will have an idealized European/American aesthetic which doesn't look like the average Brazilian. Sad.

  3. Ajvar is Serbian, not Bulga- I mean, Macedonian. Bulgarians and Macedonians eat liutenitsa, not ajvar.

  4. Since all chili peppers came from the Americas. It would be fascinating to know the journey on how they end up in the Balkans and why they became cemented in the region’s culture cuisine. (Same with how Hungary and Romania accepted Paprika)

  5. Anyone notice, that even in the translations, that “Macedonian” or “Macedonia” on their own are avoided? How political!

  6. Correction: At several points we've used the term "North Macedonian", which should actually be "Macedonian". While the country has been referred to as "North Macedonia" since 2019, the term "North Macedonian" is not correct as explained in detail here: https://vlada.mk/node/16897?ln=en-gb (comment edited on December 14th 2023)

  7. As a master chef from central Europe you can start a war again, to tell things eaten on any place on the Balkan home off…
In Bulgaria and Macedonia it is called Lutenitza and worth to name it caviar. But the Lutenitza , where ever is made is much tastier and better and the king of Skara, the tradinonal Barbecue.
I would suggest do do you he next clip about Koopoloo or Baba Ganesh, please do not touch the Rakia…

  8. @DWFood The audacity of traveling to another country, conducting a report, and subsequently presenting it in such biased and xenophobic manner is utterly disgusting.

Why did you refer to it as "north Macedonian dnk" when the individual explicitly stated "part of the Macedonian dnk"? There is no such thing as a "north macedonian breakfast"!

Furthermore, at 4:44, why did you omit "Macedonian" in "Macedonian traditional (way)" and replace it with "it's a tradition in our country"? This alteration distorts the historical, cultural and national context!

We will make sure that your channel is featured in academic articles and history books as an example of how cultural genocide manifests!

People graciously opened their homes to you, hosted you, fed you, and this is how you choose to reciprocate?

    Shame on you!

  9. DW you translated the company director of Pelagonia incorrectly; he mentioned "Macedonian DNA" only he did not say "North Macedonian DNA". Да му се посерам во устата на преведувачот!

  10. I’m Croatian. Whether you’re Serbian, Croatian, Macedonian, Slovenian or Dalmatian………. Ajvar is our food.

  11. This is Bulgarian of course (like all of the other “North Macedonian” things). North Macedonian language, history, food and country do not exist, they are just very good at stealing everything from the neighbours and calling them theirs. So funny to see every “North Macedonian” trying to be proud to be North Macedonian, and just one-two years later already looking for Bulgarian or Greek grandma or even parent to get the Bulgarian or Greek passport. 😂 Where is your nationalism then North Macedonians? Or that is also stolen?
