In this video I show you how to make famed Korean Chef Beak Jongwon’s delcious and easy pork filling recipe for dumplings (mandu).

This pork filling was so easy to make and really, really, really delicious! It’d probably be very good just simply topped on a bed of rice, no need to make dumplings if your just in for a good meal.

If you have the time let it cool down for a few hours or even put it in the fridge and pull it out the next day. Once the meat is cold you will see that the juices of the meat/sauce will all congeal which will allow you a little easier experience making the dumplings and plus it will keep a lot of moisture in the dumpling. The congealed liquids will loosen up upon cooking and the insides of the dumplings will be super juicy and delicious.

Oh you know what! It’s early in the year, have you made Korean New Years Soup? These dumplings would be perfect for a little Dduk mandu soup action, if you know what I mean!

Enjoy!

Hey guys I’m Johnny Rowe and today we’re going to make some dumplings joking I’m still tired from kneading that dough all right so the meat mix is pretty basic you’re gonna need some ground pork and then you’re gonna need a bunch of scallions or green onions or whatever

You want to call them and you want to chop them nice and maybe even thinner than that actually keep chopping all right next we’re gonna add about two cups of the ground pork so here is almost one cup yeah there’s one to save a little time

Whatever and two cups like this two cups of ground pork right there okay let’s add some sugar to the mix here so here I have half a teaspoon we’re going to have 1 teaspoons worth the sugar 1/2 and 1 teaspoon sugar I need about half a

Teaspoon worth of ginger so I’m going to quickly grate some of this break that off you know what I don’t care about the skin adding such little bits of ginger let’s quickly get half a teaspoon worth of minced ginger hey half teaspoon of minced ginger I’m

Gonna say it like this much yeah looks like about right okay little ginger a little more ginger is delicious my equal man soy sauce – yeah three yeah oh yeah 1 tablespoon sauce 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce on table sauce Bowl dumplings all right and then after

Adding the oyster sauce I’m gonna put 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil and some of you might be asking why add oil when the ground pork is gonna create so much fat don’t ask me I don’t know this is Baek Jo hunts recipe I have no idea but it’s

Gonna be delicious I guess my Korean isn’t that great to fully understand everything he says but anyways he has two tablespoons of oil the last final ingredient that’s so easy right there wasn’t much going on right there so the last thing we’re going to do is add one

Cup of water so here’s my scallion cup water hey yeah well he says add 1 cup of water that looks so good yeah huh I could eat that raw and get totally sick so what Baek jongwon does next is he grabs a bundle of chopsticks I’ve never

Seen this done before either but he uses two chopsticks to mix up this ground pork mixture so lets blend everything together with our hair bow top sticks and mix hmm it actually works like that feels good so I put my heat up to high I’m gonna quickly cook the ground pork it

Shouldn’t take very long to saute it so here’s my pork mixture and let’s just pour that in no oil needed I believe the fat from the pork should bring out some greasy and plus we put the oil mix in there too so that’s gonna help oh it smells delicious I don’t want

This to burn at the bottom of my pan so I’m just gonna move it around frequently and then once the pan gets hot enough I’ll drop it to a medium heat Mmm smells really good guys about some nice pork smells scallions the color is beautiful pink and green waste your sauce soy sauce a little bit of sugar a little bit of ginger fantastic this has been cooking for about five minutes now and it’s almost done so we transfer the

Cooked pork mix out of the pan and I put it in a separate Bowl here I just wanna let it cool I’m gonna give it a taste Whoa mmm that’s great Thank You Baek jongwon so let’s leave this out for a while and then we’ll make our dumplings you know what I don’t think I’ll ever look at dumplings the same again what’s that one called I’m going to call this the Stegosaurus You

  1. l thought the raw meat mixture gets cooked when wrapped in pot of boiling water? not blanched before wrapping?

  2. Have you accepted Jesus Christ into your heart. He died for your sins and rose from the dead on the third day. If you accept His forgiveness you’ll be able to go to heaven!

  3. I’m really sorry but this must be the worst recipe I’ve ever made ! I did everything as instructed step by step and the end it was a disaster! The taste was awful, the cooked pork lost the juices , everything was a mess to fill the dumplings, and the end was terrible ! I end up discarding everything and what a waste ! Not even close with Mandu even store bought !

  5. I freeze my ginger and works best for me. When. I need to use my grater. Only get the pulp and no fiber 😎

  6. what a clown. Totally wrong way to do dumplings. Dumplings are cooked before wrapping; that's what makes them different from other dimsum–they're booked by boiling or steaming AFTER wrapping [facepalm]

  7. i love this video a lot of fancy editing not used makes it that much more relatable and understandable 🙂

  8. For things that South Korea doesn't have. Step 1: Learn something like this, Step 2: Change his name. Finally: This is something from Korea.

  9. I did exactly that with the ginger, the skin is good for you, you won't even taste it! Even when I added carrots to mine too, its all good for you so I left it all on.

Dumplings are one of my favourite things to make, and I like to take time folding my home made wrappers nicely too.

As is said elsewhere here, great normal presence, real refreshing. Keep being yourself, its a breath of fresh air!
