Now, I’ve been recommended to try German Doner Kebab for a while now and thought it would be a good idea to compare it with a traditional Turkish kebab. So I geared myself up, headed down to Teddington and Kingston in South West London and had a try for myself!

Hi everyone and welcome back to our Channel bit of a miserable afternoon here in uh London where are we we’re in Teddington and what we’re doing is we’re going to compare two different Kebab places now loads of you have asked me to go and do the German Donna kbab

House so we try and do things a little bit differently here and we’re going to compare the German Don Kebab against the Turkish Donna Kebab where are we going we’re going to the Istanbul barbecue first of all and then obviously we’re going off to try the German Donna Kebab

As always let’s give it a Go okay so I’m inside the istambul barbecue really nice menu here but what is really nice it’s the restaurant itself uh it’s got a seating area behind the cameraman there it’s really really nice really extensive menu I need to go through the menu because I’m having a lamb Donna

Ordered a small one portion of fries and uh the coke the small lamb Donna is £720 see you when the mill Arrives Okay so the meals arrived First Impressions wow that is an incredible plate of food excellent presentation there just get close up on that that does look really good homemade chili sauce there let’s hope it’s not too hot got the lamb Donna red cabbage uh you got the onions in there tomato lettuce

Cucumber you’ve got a couple of gerkins there as well chili fries are there it’s really interesting is the pizza bread it’s got some prika on there easy for me to say so it’s kind of deconstructed and you reconstruct it yourself looking forward to this I am blown away with the presentation

That’s pretty impressive okay let’s try it okay I’m going to start off with the fries nice crunch to the fries they nice fries fries are fries but they are nice fries I’m going try a bit of the um the salad here see how fresh it is red cabbage that’s really

Good I’m really impressed that’s all very fresh nice crunch to the onion really good I tried tomato with the rest of it that is really really good now how good’s the lamb Donna going to use my fingers here one things I really liked that was cut off and cooked fresh so it wasn’t

Sitting in the pot I think that’s pretty good that’s got really nice flavor to it a little bit peppery as well that is really really tasty it’s not greasy it’s cut nice and thin as well that’s really nice try some of the pits bread yeah again nice and child on the

Outside I’m really impressed with this that’s nice pill bread really nice pill bread now I’m going to try some of the homemade chili I’m not going to go mad with that just in case it is too hot wow so really nice kick to that is really fresh I’m I’m absolutely blown away this

Tastes incredibly good I’m going to tuck in and I’ll see you guys shortly really really tasty Right that was very very tasty got to say for £970 that was very good value as well now off to German Donna Kebab let’s go Okay so we’re here in German Don Kebab it’s very very simple I have the machine behind me and I’m going to order so I’ll see you in the mill arrives Yeah Okay so I’ve come inside uh gone up to the machine there putting exactly what I wanted and I’ve tried to order exactly the same the only difference is they don’t do lamb Donner here it’s a a meat Donner so I’ve got my uh Kebab here I’ve got all the vegetable all the vegetables

All the salad inside the red cabbage the lettuce the onions the tomato and the kab meat it’s also got a sauce on there as well uh portion of fries not the biggest portion of fries I’ve ever seen and the spicy sauce comes in this little container there uh I think that’s a

Little bit of an industrial sauce there as well okay let’s tuck in so let’s start with the fries H there is a slight problem here the fries themselves are actually cold they’re not particularly they’re warm they’re not cold so not much of a crunch to them ially say fries are fries but don’t

Normally say they’re cold fries they’s try it with the sauce anyhow which choose another chip yeah it’s got a little kick to it actually it’s got a big kick to it it’s kind of more of a mayonnaise kind of chili um chili sauce which is a little bit different yeah it’s a little

Bit different the cab itself I said earlier you got all the salad in there so let’s start off with the piece of Donna taking a piece from the bottom there it’s got a little bit of sauce on it it’s got a running running theme Here Again that Kebab isn’t particularly warm

It’s um not particularly hot sorry it’s just warm um actually it’s on the cold side of warm pull that out another thing about it it’s kind of look at my fingers it’s very greasy you see it’s been cut way to thin there yeah taste wise has um has the meaty taste to it

But it’s not a pleasant meaty taste it’s peppery there but no I’m not actually enjoying that um try the the piz bread this is totally different if you look at it it’s waffle bread let’s try it now I am happy with that that W of bread it’s really

Good try a bit of the salad here salad’s nice and fresh okay so I’m going to take a bigger bite now good look there there is plenty of meat there so portion wise no no problem at all like my only Grumble with that all is really the heat it’s not warm enough

It’s not hot anyhow I’m going to tuck in and I’ll see you guys Shortly He So I’ve just finished the German Don Kebab first things first want to contrast the two bills these sto uh barbecue for the Don Kebab was 720 the chips was 250 and what I did miss off is is the coke so that came to a total of

£120 here in the German Donna Kebab it came to £10 48 so a very slight price difference between the two starting off with the Istanbul uh barbecue I thought is an excellent portion for the money lots and lots of Donna meat there fantastic range of salads already really

Freshly cooked huge portion of chips that that was a very very large portion of chips what I really really liked really liked was the fact that their chili sauce was homemade and it tasted absolutely Fant fantastic as a complete meal it was really good the only

Downside that I had to it was the pitter bread now I would have preferred that to actually come in the pit of bread because it made it really difficult to eat but uh if it came in just as a Pitter complete hole just put the meat

In there and your salads and uh put it all together and took a bite I think that’ll make it far easier but as a plate of food that was a credit to them they done really well there okay onto the German Don Kebab first time in here um a little bit

Disappointing to say the least the chips were cold they were cold and there’s no excuse for it being cold cuz it’s not particularly busy the Kebab itself really really like the waffle bread uh which it came in I thought that tasted really nice the waffle bread was really good uh the salad um

Had dressing in there and by the time I got to the end of the Kebab that got very very sloppy um and if you like it’s only I tasted the salad beforehand I could say that it was fresh by the time I got down to the bottom of it it was just all

SLO the um the donam meat itself again that was cold um or lukewarm if you like and I didn’t really enjoy the flavor or the taste of it it was very very greasy so how am I going to compare the two GDK would I come back here again no

Absolutely no chance first time I’ve been here and it’s definitely my last me I’m a traditional kind of guy I’m going to stay with the traditional uh kebabs uh I got to hear your comments on this loads of you recommended that we came here and gave it a try some of you

Actually said I wouldn’t go there and don’t give it a try because it’s not very good I’d love to to hear what your comments are on that and what you thought and comparing both meals if you like And subscribe you know I really really appreciate that and if

You like the video if you could share it as well that’s even better until next time cheers and the other thing had Coke at the Turkish place and I’ve got Pepsi here and I prefer Coke bye-bye get

  1. I really like those German döner kebab rolls but in Finland we get better kebab rolls from multiple different places

  2. german doner give all customers a free drink for a review. 5 stars only though. i think no more needs to be said about such dodgyness,

  3. Love a doner kebab. I’ve been using Cinar in Hoe St, E17. They buy in premium
doner meat which makes a big difference. I always demand extra crispy meat and cut straight off the stick . The guys prepare everything fresh. Marinate the chicken themselves. Make their own kofte mince and the homemade chilli sauce is just incredible. I have been thinking of trying a German doner but won’t bother now.

  4. It's interesting GDK was that bad. The one I have local to me in Sweden is pretty good and I've never had any issues with cold food but it's so expensive compared to the local places who does it better for a much cheaper price. Other than the price my only issue is that the bread they use is super chewy.

  5. The number one thing I would have done at the German Kebab place was take it back.
If I pay for hot food, I want it hot. It seems the fries and the meat had been sat in their containers for too long.
Thanks for the review, traditional food is always going to win over corporate fodder.

  6. Note that Doner wasn't originally in bread. The sandwich idea was developed in Germany in the 70s, adjacent dishes existed. So it isn't actually. "de-constructed".

  7. In Turkey and Greece some food is supposed to be served temperate rather then piping hot, however that is due to climate (especially mid day) so I don;t think this is the reason for it being cold. Though the temperate style of food, probably quite old fashioned these days. Generally it is advised to server hot with modern standards.

  8. I've been to a few of the GDKs, I never seen them use donner meat, lamb, which is why I go there as they only use chicken, my foods always been OK but I do prefer the authentic Turkish shish chicken kebabs

  9. I am German, I live in Germany, I have lived in London for 7 years and I have been to Turkey on holiday … I have never seen a worse Döner then this one (the second one). Non of the German Döner places I go 😂to in Cologne, serve such bad Döners. You can see if in the video how bad it is done, that it is mushy … it does not look tasty at all. Sad ..I wish someone could force them to drop the Döner and the German in their name. P.S. the sauce in the plastic container is just the icing on the cake .. that I have never seen. This place is not genuine

  10. Me and the mrs had a panini with kebab meat and onions each, with a drink each, £14 there was 2 strands of donner meat inside, a tiny few flakes of chicken and a load of onions, absolute rip off

  11. I'm forgiving you for not being very fond of that "German Doenner" because this was happening in London (and not in Berlin or so)! 😀
Well, a cold Kebab should be a "noGo".

  12. The best kebabs are from Turkish restaurants, they really make the effort to give you something they would give to their families, which says a lot. The GDK looks like the worst kind of kebab you would have after a drunken night of revelry you'd regret the next day. Not for me

  13. As a london black taxi driver I like a kebab but never fancied german kebab as they use beef not lamb cheaper to buy I suppose eith these big chain's all about making as much profit possible 😮

  14. I had GDK in Scotland a few times. It was tasty, but not outstanding. I guess much depends on the franchise owner's skills. I do not like lamb, so beef doners of GDK are a good alternative for me when I do not want a chicken kebab.

  15. Gary it's just dawned on me who you look like. My favourite Carry-on character Jim Dale! Lol.

  16. Believe me its the same factory shit ,pressed meat because lamb meat its to expensive.I was often in Turkey, totally an other level and taste. And when you eat lamb its often a sheep . Greetings from the Netherlands.Nice video's!!

  17. it should be gyros with tzatziki with saur kraut, onions not german doner rubbish, thousands of ex baor squaddies could vouch for how good they tasted not this gdk muck

  18. Something I always do is if it's warm/ towards the cold end I will always go up and ask them if it's cold and to redo it, the same as when I go into McDonald's etc

  19. Doner kebab should be lamb. End of! Personally, I only eat falafel when I go to Turkish restaurants nowadays.

  20. But the German Donner is Turkish. The many Turkish people living in Germany make these, and so it is commonly called a German Doner, as distinct from a Shawarma kebab or Greek Gyros
but the food should be pipping hot. Complain send it back and DONT GO THERE AGAIN

  21. I prefer coke as well, it seems they've started adding artificial sweetener even in the regular pepsi (not max) and it tastes awful now.

  22. Hey gary i think you just had a bad experience with a local GDK framchisee . Its Decent, nothing amazing but not as terrible as the experience you had here.

  23. GDK looked more like a burger two days old that was left out for ralf the dog to nosh on ,first joint looked fab 👌

  24. I knew Gary wouldn't go to the ghetto to a real turkish Kebab 😂😂😂 i love you Gary your awesome mate 🙏 get yourself down to Haringey green lanes or Edmonton for a real Kebab don't worry you will be ok just go during the day 😂😂 i can't lie though it looked ok for proceessed Doner , GDK is the pits everyone who knows about food knows that 👍 only posh people who's never had a real kebab eat at german Doner 😂😂😂
