Hi everyone,
I am not sure if this is the place to ask but I recently acquired a 22 in kettle premium for only $30 but used. I got it hot first then scraped the grates and then waited for it to cool then cleaned it out with soapy water. This is what’s left after 45 min of scrubbing and then drying off. Is this fine?
I also noticed some rust marks and what looks to be like a deep impact mark that is beginning to rust. What can I do to restore/maintain this unit. Any advice would help as I am completely new to this.

You are good to go, man. Got some rust on one vent fin, but you should get years of great food off your Weber. Have fun!

Not sure if it will work on this but I use a mixture of vinegar and water on my cast iron pans to remove rust. Have to let it soak though. I’d just ignore it and continue cooking

You can get a stainless blade unit from Amazon.

    It’s a Weber Kettle.
No need to worry about restoring it.
There are millions of them out there
    available for cheap and/or free.

Razor scraper. It works and won’t damage the finish, believe me.

  6. Not sure what to do about the small rust spot, but wouldn’t worry about it. Ash Sweep, although rusty looks like it’s still functioning well…like others have mentioned you can get replacement sweeps on Amazon. Only thing that really matters is the cooking grate. Mixing some baking powder with dawn grease cutter soap will help clean the grate up.

As others have said, the vent blades are easily replaceable. Howeve, yours still have plenty of life left. They will start to rust a little right away, but don’t need to be replace until they become structurally compromised and don‘t cover the holes adequately.

Other than maybe a little bit of oil, I wouldn’t worry about the rust spot. It will get covered with grease and carbon with use which should slow the spread. I’ve seen lots of decades old, faded Weber kettles sitting around in backyards. I don’t ever recall seeing one that had rusted through.

If the blades are still on and turn, I wouldn’t replace them. Only replace them if they rust and fall off
